Here's to you dear listeners and welcome back to another episode of Metal Gear Mondays Revengeance

[00:00:11]
where you'll find your favorite conversations about Metal Gear and Kojima related content

[00:00:15]
delivered to you through Tactical Podcast Action.

[00:00:18]
I'm your host Warren Minix and with me as always are my favorite two members of the Cobra Unit that aren't covered in bees.

[00:00:24]
Mr. Chris Hampton, how we doing?

[00:00:26]
You know, I'm shaking. I got tactical engravings.

[00:00:30]
I wouldn't say that they're any sort of advantage though.

[00:00:34]
And of course, our brother from another mother, our sister from another mister, Mr. R. Cortez, how we doing?

[00:00:40]
Out of witty ideas to open episodes with already.

[00:00:45]
Episode three!

[00:00:47]
Let me just say, Warren slid in here on silk and Tori and I were just like,

[00:00:53]
I dun-dumb wipe hands with Owen Poo-Poo.

[00:01:01]
Shit man.

[00:01:03]
Great, doing great, Warren.

[00:01:06]
How are you?

[00:01:09]
I'm gonna be honest, I'm doing good. I'm doing good guys.

[00:01:13]
I'm feeling good. I'm feeling so fine.

[00:01:17]
Before we get started, is there anything we would like to just sort of sweep out from under the rug?

[00:01:22]
Maybe do a little vacuuming, a little housekeeping.

[00:01:24]
Is there anything we want to tackle before we start letting everybody know where we're going to talk today?

[00:01:29]
I got one thing, or actually there's some things yet, but I got something other than the elephant in the room.

[00:01:36]
Got it.

[00:01:37]
So, I want to give a big shout out to Matt, our audio editor.

[00:01:42]
Sure.

[00:01:43]
I'm not sure everyone knows, times in COVID are tough, but Matt's been there for us, taking on this work,

[00:01:48]
and his band is putting out a new album.

[00:01:52]
They have a single. They're called Pale Lungs. You should check them out on Spotify.

[00:01:57]
Yeah, they're really good.

[00:01:58]
I heard that single and I really, really liked it and I want to hear more.

[00:02:03]
Yeah, it was hype.

[00:02:04]
I was just gonna say, yeah, if you check it out, definitely check this out on Spotify and see what else is going on with it.

[00:02:11]
You'll pop the link on one of our social feeds or something so you can find it.

[00:02:18]
Definitely. What else we got? Anything else?

[00:02:21]
Get it out.

[00:02:22]
Well, so Cole is not going to be with us as a host.

[00:02:29]
He's had some personal things come up that require his attention and his energy and we want him to do that and be there for himself

[00:02:38]
and know that we're here for him too.

[00:02:41]
So he's not going to be on the show for right now and Warren is graciously stepping in because I'm a big dumb, dumb poo poo idiot

[00:02:51]
and can't host because I don't know how word sometime.

[00:03:00]
Yeah, we're going to pull it out of you, man. I can't wait.

[00:03:02]
Also, he has a real cool microphone.

[00:03:05]
So it's a great fit.

[00:03:10]
Well, I appreciate you guys even thinking of me. We're asking me to be on, but I'm glad to help.

[00:03:14]
Yeah.

[00:03:15]
Hell yeah.

[00:03:16]
And Tori.

[00:03:17]
Yeah, I also have some some misdses to take care of on top of a new thing we talked about doing, which is to appreciate and recognize all you find donors

[00:03:30]
and patrons to the show. I wanted to give one extra special shout out to a recent patron, the third and final brother of my family,

[00:03:40]
Evan Cortes and his wife, Nicole are graciously contributing to the show.

[00:03:47]
I'm pretty sure they've listened to an episode.

[00:03:52]
So hopefully that continues. But even if not, thank you, brother and sister in law for your support and all facets of life.

[00:04:01]
It's appreciated.

[00:04:03]
That's cool.

[00:04:04]
And now, yeah, if you guys, if you guys are ready, I don't know who wants to read off this name of the random patron we're about to give a shout out to.

[00:04:15]
If you guys are ready for that bit.

[00:04:17]
Yeah, you can take it if you want it.

[00:04:19]
Oh, sure. Okay.

[00:04:20]
This is our community manager, Tori.

[00:04:22]
Yeah, I got this.

[00:04:24]
Okay, that was actually me trying to mask the fact that I didn't have our, our spreadsheet up.

[00:04:33]
So the idea is every what mainline episode guys.

[00:04:38]
Yes, we wanted to just appreciate all of you find people who are helping to support us.

[00:04:45]
And this is one of a few ways I think that we came up with that we would like to tackle that.

[00:04:51]
So I have a physical cup here with names. I don't know if you can hear this.

[00:04:58]
Anybody.

[00:04:59]
I hear, I hear emptiness.

[00:05:02]
Those are hold on, hold on, hold on.

[00:05:06]
There it is.

[00:05:07]
Is that a SMR paper?

[00:05:09]
There it is.

[00:05:10]
MGM ASMR with Tori Cortes.

[00:05:13]
I don't know if I love that, but I'll go on with this anyway.

[00:05:18]
As I was shuffling that one name popped out.

[00:05:22]
So I'm just going to pull that one.

[00:05:24]
Adam guard.

[00:05:25]
Adam guard. Hopefully I'm saying your name right.

[00:05:28]
That's funny. You're the chat's out, Adam.

[00:05:30]
You're the first person listed on our, on our spreadsheet too.

[00:05:35]
Adam, as I'm pulling up another thing I should have had open already has been a patron of the show.

[00:05:42]
I've been a patron of the show for some time, a number that I will eventually.

[00:05:48]
It's a number between zero and a million.

[00:05:53]
And however long the Patreon has been available.

[00:05:56]
Yeah. How long is that now?

[00:05:58]
Like four years.

[00:05:59]
The Patreon is eternal.

[00:06:01]
Adam has been a Patreon member for a very, very long time.

[00:06:10]
Since 12 months a year.

[00:06:15]
This is a year.

[00:06:16]
A year.

[00:06:17]
Holy shit, Adam. This is not just coincidence.

[00:06:20]
Yes.

[00:06:21]
MGM birthdays for a Patreon.

[00:06:23]
It is your MGM Patreon birthday.

[00:06:26]
Oh snap.

[00:06:27]
And you get a shout out.

[00:06:29]
Birthday Adam guard.

[00:06:30]
The cup new.

[00:06:31]
The cup full of names now.

[00:06:33]
Vin and Snake is handing you a cake right now.

[00:06:38]
And I'm going to be talking about the most tactical engravings across it.

[00:06:43]
Thank you, Adam, for your patronage.

[00:06:46]
And I would say for me, I will shout out because I had two friends that I had reached out to after I had been sort of jostled into sub in.

[00:06:55]
And I would say Brian and Anthony, which are internet named killer Seymour and one gigapixel.

[00:07:01]
They're super supportive, super dope guys.

[00:07:03]
And as part of our community, because you would absolutely fit in.

[00:07:06]
So yeah, there's a call to action fellas get on in here.

[00:07:10]
You've been called out.

[00:07:12]
So otherwise, how do you guys feel you guys want to get get started into some stuff?

[00:07:17]
I feel groovy.

[00:07:18]
Yeah.

[00:07:19]
Oh, I got one thing because I'm a nerd.

[00:07:23]
Go for it.

[00:07:24]
So we left off at the end of virtuous mission last time.

[00:07:29]
And I was replaying that part of the game for this part of the game coverage, right?

[00:07:36]
And there is this part where the boss is like looking at Snake and the camera kind of positions to where you can press the L1 button and you see the sorrow.

[00:07:48]
And she says that line drift away my places with them now.

[00:07:53]
Is she talking to the sorrow or she talking to Snake?

[00:07:57]
I always thought she was talking to Snake in this part.

[00:08:00]
I think she's talking to the sorrow.

[00:08:03]
So I actually think it's both.

[00:08:06]
Oh, oh, this is big brain.

[00:08:09]
All right.

[00:08:10]
Come on, Warren.

[00:08:11]
Yeah.

[00:08:12]
So for me, I think that it's basically she always knows the sorrow is paying attention.

[00:08:18]
So I do think that when she's having that conversation with Snake, she's saying she's doing what she's doing.

[00:08:23]
And I think that she's talking to the sorrow because it's one of those where he knows that he's going to be gone to, right?

[00:08:31]
As we play this game, no spoilers, but we know that he's a boss in the future.

[00:08:36]
And so she so as we go through the game, I see that that's something that she's saying is drift away.

[00:08:41]
Do what you have to do because you're going to have some bodies to deal with in the future.

[00:08:46]
Put it lightly.

[00:08:47]
Of this game.

[00:08:48]
Yeah.

[00:08:49]
So so yeah, so good catch.

[00:08:51]
And so I would say anybody if you're playing along with us or you have your workbooks open, we are going to talk basically we finished the virtuous mission in its entirety.

[00:09:01]
We were left for dead in Russia and we got faulted out of there.

[00:09:05]
We're going to talk the commencement of Operation Sneak Eater all the way through the boss fight with the pain and getting out of the caves.

[00:09:14]
So just to let you guys know where we are.

[00:09:17]
There's some cool stuff in this.

[00:09:18]
I can't wait to actually talk about a few of it.

[00:09:20]
We get some formal introductions with some characters we may have seen a couple of boss fights.

[00:09:26]
Pretty cool.

[00:09:28]
Lauren, I got to say because I don't think you're logged into a Google account.

[00:09:32]
It's showing you as like a anonymous thing.

[00:09:35]
Anonymous walrus.

[00:09:37]
Anonymous walrus.

[00:09:39]
Yeah.

[00:09:40]
Which totally sounds like a code name from like a soldier you've faulted in MGS five.

[00:09:46]
Yes.

[00:09:47]
Is that an S rank?

[00:09:48]
S rank.

[00:09:49]
You guessed it.

[00:09:50]
S plus.

[00:09:51]
Damn right.

[00:09:52]
It's all about the timing.

[00:09:53]
Don't worry about anything else.

[00:09:54]
Just be non-lethal and get through it as fast as possible.

[00:09:56]
That's how you get the S.

[00:09:58]
So we are now starting.

[00:10:01]
We have been brought back.

[00:10:03]
So we're at episode where we ended last episode.

[00:10:06]
We discussed everything that happened until we got faulted out of Russia.

[00:10:11]
So as far as the game is concerned, we are now rushed into a beautiful title sequence and a beautiful song sung by Cynthia Hardnell.

[00:10:21]
Dun dun dun dun dun.

[00:10:23]
Dun dun dun dun dun.

[00:10:27]
It's ballsy.

[00:10:28]
It's brassy.

[00:10:30]
She's got Moxie.

[00:10:31]
I love every bit about it.

[00:10:33]
I love the song.

[00:10:34]
We can talk about it later.

[00:10:35]
I love that the game makes its own reference to the game and I will definitely talk about that when we get to that point.

[00:10:41]
I just think the song's been talked to death, but man is it great.

[00:10:46]
I just love the...

[00:10:48]
It's got to be a joke, right?

[00:10:50]
Because it's a video game and she's doing this inner Shirley Bassey Goldfinger style song.

[00:10:56]
She is nailing every note.

[00:10:58]
I love when that's a thing.

[00:11:01]
Yeah, it's real homage to the Bond films.

[00:11:05]
I don't know about you guys, but I can't boot up this game and let that menu go by.

[00:11:13]
Every time it comes up, I have to hear the song at least one time, depending on my mode, maybe a couple more.

[00:11:19]
How many times did you guys press the button to get it to go?

[00:11:22]
Snakey!

[00:11:23]
Oh, during every appropriate gap in the song, naturally.

[00:11:27]
Oh yeah.

[00:11:28]
It's so cool because you get to be the director of the video.

[00:11:33]
Yeah, because you can change the color or the background and all that.

[00:11:38]
There's so many things you can tweak and go as you're watching.

[00:11:40]
The speed with which Snake takes somebody down with CQC.

[00:11:46]
I think you can rewind him too if I'm not mistaken.

[00:11:49]
You can make him go in reverse.

[00:11:50]
I think you can, yeah.

[00:11:51]
You can just have your fun with it, which is great.

[00:11:54]
It's a great menu screen, or title screen, I guess.

[00:11:58]
We get cut from the song and we are dropped into...

[00:12:02]
Snake is already back in action.

[00:12:04]
He's in a drone now, I guess, so they can't do the halo jump again.

[00:12:08]
We are seeing crazy high-paced action and we get cut to a week prior or something like that.

[00:12:15]
It is security footage, or at least it looks like security footage to me,

[00:12:19]
of Major Zero coming in and having a face-to-face with Jack Snake.

[00:12:26]
It's like the briefing in MGS1, that kind of menu-ish, like a microfiche.

[00:12:34]
That's the whole aesthetic in this game, right?

[00:12:37]
Yeah, I love that.

[00:12:39]
It's just really brown, really grainy.

[00:12:42]
I just love that you constantly see the tracking.

[00:12:46]
You can't fix it.

[00:12:48]
There's nothing you can do about it.

[00:12:49]
You can't actually see who's talking, but you know by the voices what's going on.

[00:12:54]
It's a nice little touch.

[00:12:55]
Yeah, super spy stuff.

[00:12:57]
So, yeah, they're having a conversation and basically he's just expositing what has happened.

[00:13:03]
So the long story short of it is that they blame Snake for the boss's defection.

[00:13:10]
They believe that he is an accomplice and basically aided her in this.

[00:13:15]
And we get thrown into a conversation between Khrushchev and President Johnson.

[00:13:21]
And they have a conversation.

[00:13:23]
It's a pretty long one because Kojima loves his cut scenes.

[00:13:26]
Oh, yeah.

[00:13:27]
But the long and the short of it is America did it, but we didn't actually do it.

[00:13:33]
So those nuclear weapons that were launched in your country, and I know we had a ship in there in that airspace,

[00:13:41]
but it was one of our people that defected.

[00:13:44]
And she's like with your people now, and she gave those rockets as a gift now.

[00:13:49]
So we didn't do it.

[00:13:50]
And Khrushchev is not really happy with that as a solution.

[00:13:58]
Yeah.

[00:14:00]
It's so funny because Kojima does a really good job here of fitting it into the history because he says that Colonel Volga,

[00:14:08]
or Khrushchev tells you know Johnson, President Johnson, that the Colonel Volga is backing the Brezhnev faction.

[00:14:18]
And Brezhnev was actually the next Soviet Premier after Khrushchev.

[00:14:23]
Like there was a small coup and Khrushchev was removed.

[00:14:26]
So they did a good job of mapping that.

[00:14:29]
I think it's funny though that Volga would back Brezhnev because like Brezhnev was an old man and all the jokes in him and in like Russia at the time

[00:14:39]
or to Soviet Union were just about him being really geriatric and old and like having to read from note cards all the time.

[00:14:46]
Sure.

[00:14:47]
There's a good joke that's like Comrade Brezhnev is sitting in his office and here's a knock at the door.

[00:14:53]
He stands up, puts on his spectacles and pulls out a note card and then says, come in.

[00:15:00]
Classic Russian humor.

[00:15:07]
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:15:09]
So yeah, so I love, I actually like this conversation a lot.

[00:15:13]
I do love the voices are the best.

[00:15:16]
I know you guys had mentioned on a previous episode like the Russian American accents.

[00:15:22]
And I love President Johnson as whole is, you know, it's the boss.

[00:15:26]
You may know her as Voya Voda.

[00:15:28]
That's just really good.

[00:15:30]
I like his I personally love the don't know what to tell you.

[00:15:36]
Yeah.

[00:15:37]
But then Khrushchev just goes like, you know, you have one week, one week.

[00:15:44]
And basically the mission is given that to, I guess, keep America safe from a potential missile, a nuclear war is they have to get back into Russia.

[00:15:56]
They have to get so-called back.

[00:15:58]
They have to destroy the Shagohad.

[00:16:00]
Yes.

[00:16:01]
And they have to kill Volga and the boss.

[00:16:03]
Yeah.

[00:16:04]
Yeah.

[00:16:05]
That's the last thing that's like you have to kill the boss.

[00:16:08]
Right.

[00:16:09]
And of course, snakes like I'm not a mercenary.

[00:16:12]
And he's just like, well, she's your enemy.

[00:16:14]
So get to it.

[00:16:15]
Yeah.

[00:16:16]
And that, you know, here we conveniently just like two hours into the game, this call back to the conversation with the boss at the beginning where she's like, you know, soldiers change sides and time moves all things and whatever.

[00:16:32]
And here, boss, big boss snake finds himself on the opposite side of the person who told him this.

[00:16:39]
You may never know the enemy of your enemy tomorrow may not be the enemy today.

[00:16:43]
Hell yeah.

[00:16:45]
So good.

[00:16:46]
So now we are thrust into our drone footage.

[00:16:51]
We learned that you can't do a halo jump.

[00:16:53]
They've absolutely increased security.

[00:16:55]
They can't get in under radar like they used to.

[00:16:57]
So they drop a wish I had in front of me like an XD.

[00:17:02]
It's an M21 aircraft.

[00:17:04]
They lock he D 21 drone and it's 30,000 feet above the Arctic Ocean.

[00:17:09]
They fly in from the North Pole and they drop him in a drone to get into Russia into the opening area again.

[00:17:17]
And I love the R one where you can like see the cockpit and it's like shaking like crazy.

[00:17:22]
Like you can't really make sense of anything in front of you.

[00:17:25]
And so yeah, it's going to say.

[00:17:28]
Yeah, of course you do.

[00:17:33]
Because you're playing a Kojima game and why wouldn't you?

[00:17:37]
Yes, exactly.

[00:17:38]
Well, you have to.

[00:17:39]
I mean, that makes perfect sense.

[00:17:41]
So now we land.

[00:17:42]
We are in.

[00:17:43]
We are basically right where we left off after the virtuous mission.

[00:17:46]
You run through a couple of maps to get us back to where your drone has crashed.

[00:17:53]
And we see and hear a white horse.

[00:17:57]
Yeah.

[00:17:58]
Is that a Twin Peaks reference?

[00:18:00]
Yeah.

[00:18:01]
I don't I don't know.

[00:18:03]
Isn't there like a some sort of storytelling thing or like I know directors like to talk about like the white horse like stands for some something different for every single like if it's in a dream, it means something like I know it was a huge blade runner thing, the Ridley Scott thing about the white horse or the unicorn.

[00:18:21]
I don't know if he's doing that like kind of like pointing his finger at it like I'm going to do this because it does.

[00:18:26]
There's nothing tactical.

[00:18:27]
Yeah.

[00:18:28]
Right.

[00:18:29]
I don't know about riding a horse in the rain if you're trying to do your thing.

[00:18:32]
But we learn very quickly that it's the boss's white horse.

[00:18:38]
She is in a dope sneaking suit.

[00:18:41]
Oh, yeah.

[00:18:42]
I don't get how the white has that advantage in there.

[00:18:44]
But man, she she's got like the little knife to the side.

[00:18:46]
It's got like these extra like zippers or wires like where the collarbones are.

[00:18:51]
I don't know what any of it does, but she looks so badass.

[00:18:54]
It looks like a cosmonaut suit.

[00:18:57]
Right.

[00:18:58]
I don't know how that makes sense.

[00:18:59]
She's got some real serious David Bowie vibes because she's got her hair slicked back.

[00:19:04]
She's changed her appearance.

[00:19:06]
She's no longer like got the bandana.

[00:19:09]
Right.

[00:19:10]
And she's like got this gun too.

[00:19:13]
Right.

[00:19:14]
So now we learn that she knows that Snake's there, which this whole thing was supposed to be a secret mission anyway.

[00:19:19]
You have seven days to do this.

[00:19:21]
You land and the boss already knows you're there.

[00:19:24]
She beats the crap out of you, takes the awesome submachine gun, the Patriot.

[00:19:30]
She unleashes, I don't know, 300 bullets, a whole clip into the drone, blowing it up.

[00:19:37]
So that's wasted.

[00:19:38]
She gets back on the horse.

[00:19:40]
I guess breaks his hand or wounds his hand, not to the point where we have to heal it in the hood.

[00:19:45]
But I guess she's for wearing her bandana.

[00:19:48]
Wear the bandana, rips the gun apart.

[00:19:50]
Right.

[00:19:51]
She's just it's all like she's just schooling him.

[00:19:53]
Student meet teacher, get out.

[00:19:55]
Like what are you doing?

[00:19:56]
And I want to throw out there.

[00:19:59]
I totally believed that she was playing a character.

[00:20:04]
Yeah.

[00:20:05]
Almost almost instantly when I first played this game.

[00:20:08]
Oh yeah.

[00:20:09]
Because the suit, the hair, the gun is ridiculous as far as I'm concerned for her character.

[00:20:14]
She would never carry that gun as an actual weapon.

[00:20:18]
She's like a video game villain now.

[00:20:19]
Right.

[00:20:20]
Yeah.

[00:20:21]
She's a super boss and it's awesome.

[00:20:22]
She completes her defection.

[00:20:23]
It's so cool.

[00:20:24]
Like now he's seeing her physically different, carrying different weapons, emphasizing different,

[00:20:30]
a big gun over CQC.

[00:20:32]
It's it just adds to the whole.

[00:20:34]
Oh, got you.

[00:20:35]
You thought this was the game up until this point, but.

[00:20:39]
Yeah.

[00:20:40]
Now it gets like lethal, you know, and the stakes are higher.

[00:20:47]
I think it's kind of cute how she's like with the bandana reference, you know.

[00:20:53]
Yeah.

[00:20:54]
Oh yeah.

[00:20:55]
And that's definitely an octopus players or whatever.

[00:20:58]
But it's like, you know, she doesn't need the bandana anymore.

[00:21:01]
She's already got infinite ammo with the Patriot.

[00:21:04]
Yes.

[00:21:05]
Right.

[00:21:06]
Yeah, exactly.

[00:21:07]
But so she's like, oh, you're still dependent on that thing.

[00:21:10]
Just look at you.

[00:21:12]
You big dummy.

[00:21:14]
But she does like her big dialogue.

[00:21:17]
She presents a ton of like just rapid fire.

[00:21:21]
Diacotomies to snake.

[00:21:23]
Who's like, who's it going to be snake?

[00:21:25]
Your former mentor or your country, the mission or your, your loyalty and all this stuff.

[00:21:32]
Your beliefs, your loyalty.

[00:21:33]
Right.

[00:21:34]
And she creates like a whole lot of like false dichotomies here.

[00:21:37]
They're just like these scenarios that are meant to like antagonize snake against her.

[00:21:43]
I believe.

[00:21:44]
Right.

[00:21:45]
And she does, she does sort of explain exactly what she's going to do for the rest of the

[00:21:52]
game in that moment right there.

[00:21:54]
She literally says like, I'm loyal to my purpose.

[00:21:57]
I'm loyal to the mission.

[00:21:58]
Exactly what she's been saying, but she just sneaks in those couple of lines that if,

[00:22:02]
you know, on a third play, fourth play, fifth play, you know what they, oh, she's been doing

[00:22:07]
it from day one.

[00:22:08]
Yeah.

[00:22:09]
There's no like she changed her mind later or have this defection.

[00:22:12]
You know that her, she's has resolved already.

[00:22:15]
She's already there and she is the big bad.

[00:22:17]
She's a soldier and she's playing her part.

[00:22:20]
Yes.

[00:22:21]
And that's the thing.

[00:22:22]
She's so good at it.

[00:22:23]
That's, that's why I was just like, what is going on here?

[00:22:25]
Like she just, it's like I said, she's a, you wouldn't, you wouldn't know she's the same

[00:22:28]
person if you had to, if she didn't do what she did, you might think like, cause she have

[00:22:33]
an evil twin.

[00:22:34]
Like that's not her.

[00:22:35]
Like that's not the character.

[00:22:37]
Right.

[00:22:38]
Oh man.

[00:22:39]
So now we get to.

[00:22:40]
What if we got none like.

[00:22:41]
Oh, I know.

[00:22:42]
Evil twin.

[00:22:43]
Three evil twin snakes.

[00:22:45]
Oh my God.

[00:22:46]
And they changed it to have like, she has a twin.

[00:22:51]
That would have been terrible.

[00:22:52]
It would have been so bad.

[00:22:53]
That would have been terrible.

[00:22:54]
Thank you, Kojima.

[00:22:55]
And you did talk about it last.

[00:22:56]
I do think this is the sweet spot for Metal Gear right now.

[00:23:00]
They're having so much fun.

[00:23:01]
They've established that they have a popular franchise.

[00:23:04]
They can make these choices and it feels so grounded.

[00:23:08]
I know there's a, you know, a guy that's a spider and a guy that can, you know, command

[00:23:11]
bees and crap, but that's in comparison to the first two games.

[00:23:15]
It's like nothing like that's so Monday morning, like, you know, stuff that like it feels really

[00:23:20]
grounded even though it's not.

[00:23:23]
I mean, it's not a character living on through another character's arm.

[00:23:27]
So, or his arm and another character's body.

[00:23:30]
In the cold open of the game.

[00:23:32]
Yeah.

[00:23:33]
Tune in a very long time from now.

[00:23:35]
We talked about Metal Gear.

[00:23:36]
It's forever away, isn't it?

[00:23:38]
Oh yeah.

[00:23:39]
So this is chronological.

[00:23:40]
It's chronological.

[00:23:41]
Right.

[00:23:42]
So now we're on a very long codec call where we get basically, hey, you're back snake.

[00:23:50]
How's everything going and snake?

[00:23:53]
Not good.

[00:23:54]
Boss.

[00:23:55]
I have no gun.

[00:23:56]
I'm injured.

[00:23:57]
The boss knows I'm here and she, she killed the drone.

[00:24:00]
So what's up?

[00:24:02]
What are we doing here?

[00:24:05]
He basically still says, well, it's procure on site.

[00:24:08]
So commence operation snake eater and go do your thing.

[00:24:13]
And what I do love though is I love the callback.

[00:24:16]
So the password, because you're going to meet up with Adam, who is another secret agent

[00:24:21]
that's in there, a defector that is going to meet you at Ross Viet where you had lost

[00:24:25]
Sokolov before.

[00:24:26]
So you're going to go basically through the same map that you just went to because you're

[00:24:30]
going back to where you were to infiltrate, to get Sokolov out.

[00:24:35]
And I love the line because for some reason it just always sits with me is the password.

[00:24:39]
Who are the Patriots and Lali Lulelo?

[00:24:42]
Oh, that's not love it every time.

[00:24:45]
I love how they this, because this comes hot off of two.

[00:24:48]
Right.

[00:24:49]
This is all like sinister and stuff.

[00:24:51]
And it's just like, oh, sweet little innocent.

[00:24:54]
It's just a passcode.

[00:24:56]
Yep.

[00:24:57]
It's so good.

[00:24:58]
So yeah.

[00:24:59]
So I love that.

[00:25:00]
I like this conflict between zero and snake that will arise in the future.

[00:25:05]
Oh, sure.

[00:25:06]
It's the near future.

[00:25:07]
Oh, you know, I never thought of that.

[00:25:10]
Wow.

[00:25:11]
I don't know why.

[00:25:12]
Oh yeah.

[00:25:13]
It definitely plays.

[00:25:15]
Going back, it is fun, like especially to go chronologically to pay attention to you.

[00:25:20]
You really start focusing on different parts and how they affect so far in the future or

[00:25:24]
and then you're like, oh wait, but they wrote that game first.

[00:25:27]
So like that's a, that's a dig.

[00:25:30]
That's some flair right there, which I love.

[00:25:32]
Yeah.

[00:25:33]
Especially with all the time paradox stuff, which we can get to you at a certain point.

[00:25:37]
Yeah.

[00:25:38]
We're, we're definitely getting there.

[00:25:39]
I can't wait for a time paradox.

[00:25:40]
Oh yeah.

[00:25:41]
Yeah.

[00:25:42]
And I will say, like coming out of this cut scene and you commence the mission, snake

[00:25:46]
gets his ass kicked here again by the boss.

[00:25:49]
Yes.

[00:25:50]
And I think it's such a good narrative piece.

[00:25:53]
Really sets up a lot of momentum for character development in this game because like you

[00:25:59]
tie the progression of the character's development to the actual gameplay elements.

[00:26:06]
Yeah.

[00:26:07]
Sure.

[00:26:08]
Right.

[00:26:09]
Yeah.

[00:26:10]
And I did, I did put a little line in there because so he's already injured, right?

[00:26:12]
He's 48 hours off of intensive care from what just happened.

[00:26:18]
So he's already.

[00:26:19]
Charimatics like you should not be doing this, you know.

[00:26:23]
Right.

[00:26:24]
So you're barely healed, if at all, from your previous encounter.

[00:26:28]
Your mentor and mother figure has like, you know, lit a match and just thrown it on you.

[00:26:34]
Like you can't keep up.

[00:26:35]
You see her again.

[00:26:37]
I know a lot of people are like, how can snake be this green beret, this, this great, you

[00:26:42]
know, soldier that why he's even doing the mission in the first place and then get, you

[00:26:46]
know, turned to paste so quickly, so fast in this game.

[00:26:51]
And I just, I don't know.

[00:26:52]
I never thought twice about him getting like torn apart.

[00:26:56]
I was like, by the first time it was more, he was like, holy shit, this is my mom, essentially.

[00:27:02]
And I'm not going to, I'm not going to fight my mom.

[00:27:03]
Yeah.

[00:27:04]
I'm going to do the motions because I want to show her that I'm going to stand up to her.

[00:27:07]
But you know, my insides are going to be turned to liquid and I'm going to be thrown over

[00:27:10]
a bridge.

[00:27:11]
Liquid.

[00:27:12]
And, and I'm back and I see her again.

[00:27:16]
I'm injured.

[00:27:17]
There's no way.

[00:27:18]
I know he's trying.

[00:27:19]
He's going to at least put up a fight.

[00:27:20]
There's no way the boss didn't train him to give up.

[00:27:22]
Right.

[00:27:23]
Like that's not the thing.

[00:27:24]
You wouldn't think twice about beating up your mom.

[00:27:27]
You know, like it does suck for him.

[00:27:29]
But I know that was always like an early people were like, this is the first one.

[00:27:33]
He's supposed to be like big, but I suppose we bet ass.

[00:27:35]
It's like, well, I mean, he is like, you never saw like a Bruce Lee movie where like the other

[00:27:39]
master gets the shit kicked out of him by Bruce Lee.

[00:27:42]
They're both masters.

[00:27:43]
Like it's okay.

[00:27:44]
But by the end of the game, like you are a badass.

[00:27:47]
Yeah.

[00:27:48]
Right.

[00:27:49]
Like tried and true.

[00:27:50]
You feel like you've earned it.

[00:27:51]
You've done it.

[00:27:52]
Yeah.

[00:27:53]
Agreed.

[00:27:54]
I mean, I think that's what's really impressive on the boss and what brought her up to the

[00:27:58]
point of snake eater and kind of understanding her relationship with snake.

[00:28:03]
It's kind of, it makes a lot more sense as well, because snake is kind of tested before

[00:28:10]
this, but he hasn't had a lot of real intense battle experience at this point.

[00:28:15]
I mean, yeah, he was in the Korean war, I guess.

[00:28:18]
And maybe I just don't know a lot about that or how that went down.

[00:28:22]
He's had field training.

[00:28:24]
You know, developed CQC in some sense.

[00:28:27]
So he's well versed in the actual moves and things of that.

[00:28:31]
But that, I just feel like I've never, I never thought that I was the strongest person in

[00:28:36]
the room upon entry to Russia ever.

[00:28:39]
Yeah.

[00:28:40]
I was never, I never thought that and it does.

[00:28:42]
It makes for great storytelling because you're actually growing as a character and the stories

[00:28:46]
evolving around you.

[00:28:47]
Well, exactly.

[00:28:48]
And like you were saying earlier, once you consider what it means to be snake, to be

[00:28:53]
controlling snake and fighting his former mentor, not only mother figure as we've been

[00:28:58]
talking about, but also I gather through multiple plays of this somewhat of a love interest

[00:29:04]
to there's a confusion and a blurring of the lines between there.

[00:29:08]
College Warren had a love interest.

[00:29:10]
Yeah.

[00:29:11]
I know you heard me say it on a previous episode.

[00:29:13]
Oh man, she is.

[00:29:14]
How can you not be a little confused about what's going on there?

[00:29:19]
Am I right?

[00:29:22]
So now that's happened.

[00:29:23]
We are commencing Operation Snake Eater and I do love they raise the stakes.

[00:29:28]
You are instantly in caution.

[00:29:30]
So you don't have the ability to just be sneaking instantly.

[00:29:34]
Yeah.

[00:29:35]
You might know it at first, but do you think you're already caught?

[00:29:37]
You have to dip dive and duck, whatever you got to do.

[00:29:40]
And you have nothing.

[00:29:41]
Yeah, you have to.

[00:29:42]
You don't even have to drink.

[00:29:43]
I didn't run.

[00:29:44]
Right.

[00:29:45]
Ayer Hush Puppy was ripped to shreds.

[00:29:46]
So did anybody have any trouble with getting from map to map as far as the like the pieces

[00:29:54]
there?

[00:29:55]
I feel like, you know, this part of the game really reminds me of the first two sections

[00:30:01]
of MGS one where you're in the warehouse and you go upstairs up the elevator because both

[00:30:10]
of those rooms in MGS one, you don't have any weapons until you procure the socom unless

[00:30:16]
you get in right the truck.

[00:30:17]
But with this, like you don't even have the option to pick up a gun until pretty far

[00:30:24]
along in your journey, like where you're almost at your destination.

[00:30:27]
I don't think you get it until you reach your destination, right?

[00:30:30]
Until you meet up with who you're supposed to meet up with.

[00:30:34]
You can find something where the Crocs are.

[00:30:37]
There is like some grenades there and some other stuff.

[00:30:40]
You can pick up an AK-47 in the warehouse.

[00:30:44]
I did.

[00:30:44]
Now, I got a step in here for a moment because I've realized that as soon as I've wasted

[00:30:50]
on the podcast, I contradicted myself in the way that I was playing.

[00:30:54]
I said that I wanted to play a survivalist kind of playthrough and that meant, you know,

[00:31:01]
only procuring what is needed.

[00:31:03]
And then I immediately started trying to collect all the goodies and was like, yeah, no, I'm

[00:31:06]
a collector.

[00:31:07]
I love to collect shit.

[00:31:08]
So in order to remedy that, I made two files.

[00:31:12]
One where I get to collect all the shit and one where I play survivalist.

[00:31:16]
So yeah, I did go ahead and get that AK-47.

[00:31:19]
And I did happen to take out some aggression on some of those surrounding barrels when

[00:31:25]
it was safe too.

[00:31:27]
Because there's almost nothing more satisfying than just blowing those shits to pieces.

[00:31:31]
Oh, I know.

[00:31:33]
If you blow, the funny thing is those barrels, if you blow them up in the first part of the

[00:31:38]
game in virtuous mission, because you're just retracing your steps here from virtuous

[00:31:42]
mission, right?

[00:31:43]
It's like you did it before with weapons.

[00:31:45]
Now you got to do it again without weapons and it's dark and you have to be stealthy.

[00:31:50]
So yes, you have to put all the skills you've learned in virtuous mission to the test.

[00:31:56]
And you get to this part and if you blew up the barrels in Ross Viet, they're replaced.

[00:32:04]
So like, who the fuck is moving these barrels around?

[00:32:07]
Right.

[00:32:07]
They are like Boris and Leonid.

[00:32:11]
Like, oh, we must put the explosive barrel in Ross Viet.

[00:32:13]
The hell's the heck blew up last one.

[00:32:15]
We need new explosive barrel.

[00:32:18]
We must hide silencer of M16 gun found earlier.

[00:32:22]
Oh, I'm going to put a raindrop camel right here under Cove.

[00:32:31]
But you're right, though.

[00:32:31]
You're so right.

[00:32:33]
I'll just put these thermal goggles in this locker here that is nothing else in it.

[00:32:37]
Somebody might need to come back to this specific locker for this.

[00:32:41]
It is dark in locker so you know where people are and it's very helpful.

[00:32:45]
Maybe we hide poster in here and night vision goggles helps help sense heat after looking at poster.

[00:32:54]
Yes.

[00:32:56]
So we make our way through and we we go from map to map.

[00:32:59]
I didn't there wasn't anything that was so specific about it.

[00:33:03]
I just love the there are multiple ways that you can find out.

[00:33:07]
Are you guys using the battery items like the anti personnel sensor or any of those things?

[00:33:12]
Have you like I'm I'm specifically choosing to do so because I never did.

[00:33:16]
So I've been using like the anti personnel, the motion sensor, the I use the motion sensor

[00:33:22]
because it's real handy in finding animals to and I'm sure I've never collected all the snakes.

[00:33:29]
And I know that there's one snake that only appears once in the game.

[00:33:33]
It's super rare.

[00:33:34]
Which one is that?

[00:33:36]
I can't remember off the top of my head.

[00:33:37]
Great question.

[00:33:40]
I got the strategy guy right in front of me.

[00:33:42]
But I know it's my fingers and I know I think you find it in Grinini Gorky.

[00:33:47]
I just don't remember what the name of the thing is.

[00:33:50]
Damn it.

[00:33:51]
I wish I did.

[00:33:51]
Yeah, we'll get to it because there is another place to get it to probably when I get it.

[00:33:56]
I will call it out.

[00:33:58]
There we go.

[00:33:58]
That's what I'll do.

[00:34:00]
So we make our way.

[00:34:01]
We go we get back to Russ of it.

[00:34:04]
Russ of it.

[00:34:05]
Russ of it.

[00:34:05]
And and it is a ghost town.

[00:34:08]
Really nothing going on.

[00:34:10]
So you get in there.

[00:34:11]
You you grab some stuff.

[00:34:13]
I found a bunch of items that I could find helpful.

[00:34:16]
And you go into the bedroom.

[00:34:19]
You realize that well, obviously so close out there, but you got to where you need to go.

[00:34:22]
So you can get yourself together.

[00:34:23]
We walk on out of that room.

[00:34:27]
And we get to meet.

[00:34:28]
I don't know, probably one of my favorite characters in the game.

[00:34:30]
Hell, yeah.

[00:34:32]
Eva.

[00:34:33]
Yeah, we get to meet Eva guys.

[00:34:34]
You said, Mom, I love it.

[00:34:38]
And she gets she gets sexy sax music, right?

[00:34:42]
She gets like all this fun stuff.

[00:34:43]
Oh, yeah.

[00:34:44]
She just goes like her cleavage plunge in through there.

[00:34:47]
You guys gives you the R1 to go into it.

[00:34:50]
And gives you the R1 to go into it.

[00:34:54]
Yeah.

[00:34:54]
That's right, ladies and gentlemen.

[00:34:57]
And the thing I'm trying to understand is did anybody think she was a good guy when you meet her?

[00:35:03]
I was too distracted, to be honest with you.

[00:35:07]
She doesn't know the password.

[00:35:09]
She's not Adam.

[00:35:10]
Yeah.

[00:35:10]
I mean, yeah, it's obvious from the get go.

[00:35:12]
She's there's something fishy here because she refuses to give the passcode, right?

[00:35:16]
It's right.

[00:35:16]
She refuses to answer and then something conveniently happens.

[00:35:22]
Right.

[00:35:22]
And she does, you know, she's obviously on his side because she could have just

[00:35:26]
let him die.

[00:35:27]
But she also could have, you know, maybe it was to save her own skin.

[00:35:31]
I just especially the first time I played this, I was not convinced.

[00:35:34]
I was like this, you know, I've seen Bond movies.

[00:35:36]
This chick's going to try to kill me later in the game.

[00:35:39]
Yeah.

[00:35:39]
That's where my head was playing.

[00:35:40]
It's like an enemy of my enemy scenario.

[00:35:43]
She definitely wants something.

[00:35:44]
I felt like she wanted something out of me.

[00:35:47]
Sure.

[00:35:47]
Yeah.

[00:35:48]
But she definitely continues that theme of like really awesome female characters.

[00:35:53]
I know she's a little bit more sexualized, but she's

[00:35:56]
she is badass in her own way.

[00:35:57]
That gun is crazy.

[00:36:00]
Speaking of my favorite thing about this, I played.

[00:36:03]
So I played these files a couple of times.

[00:36:05]
Like I said earlier, I have a survivalist file and then I have one where I get to

[00:36:09]
collect and play with all the goodies.

[00:36:11]
And speaking of goodies, uh, during that cut scene where Snake has his first

[00:36:19]
encounter with her and you get that R one trigger as she unzips her jumpsuit.

[00:36:26]
You guys, I was playing that with my mother in law present.

[00:36:29]
She was sitting on the couch next to me and, uh, I just felt like, I mean, she

[00:36:35]
wasn't really paying attention, but I just had to be like, oh, listen, uh,

[00:36:39]
huh, listen, Mama G, this is going to get kind of soul tree, just a fair warning.

[00:36:44]
And she looked exception.

[00:36:45]
She, oh my, it is soul tree.

[00:36:48]
And I said, well, you know what?

[00:36:49]
It was written by a Japanese man and she said, well, you can tell it was written

[00:36:53]
by a man.

[00:36:54]
That's for sure.

[00:36:55]
Oh, of course.

[00:36:58]
And I, and just, she had to see me, you know, cause I can't, I can't let those R

[00:37:03]
one moments go by.

[00:37:04]
So she saw me have to take advantage of every single one that came by after that.

[00:37:09]
I think on the, the HD collection, you get a trophy for hitting all the secret

[00:37:15]
R ones, R ones.

[00:37:16]
That's what I'm going for.

[00:37:18]
And there is some great ones.

[00:37:19]
Like they're all, they're almost Easter eggs and helpful.

[00:37:22]
Yeah.

[00:37:22]
You have to use the R one.

[00:37:23]
So they do incentivize it, maybe in the wrong way, but they do incentivize

[00:37:27]
using the R one feature.

[00:37:29]
I don't know about that.

[00:37:30]
That one's definitely not tactical.

[00:37:32]
So if you guys, so if you don't press R one, cause I was like, you know what?

[00:37:36]
I'm going to, I'm going to be, please talk about it.

[00:37:39]
And I'm not going to press R one.

[00:37:41]
So what's really funny about it is they, they do a shot, a medium shot of snake.

[00:37:47]
And it's his eyes are like, hubba hubba.

[00:37:49]
Like it's so ridiculous.

[00:37:52]
It's just what he's staring at.

[00:37:53]
Yeah.

[00:37:54]
Like you missed out player and it's so hilarious.

[00:37:57]
Because otherwise you're just going to watch this spazoid geek out over it.

[00:38:01]
Oh my God.

[00:38:02]
It's so funny.

[00:38:03]
Cause like now knowing it, it's just, I couldn't believe it.

[00:38:06]
I was like, wow, they really are just like tripling down on like, dude, get a look.

[00:38:11]
Like you got goods right there.

[00:38:12]
Like what are you doing?

[00:38:14]
Naked snake is a weird guy.

[00:38:17]
And I like that he has a separate personality.

[00:38:20]
Like it's not just solid snake.

[00:38:21]
He really is totally unique.

[00:38:24]
And I never felt like this was just a recycled character.

[00:38:29]
You know, it never felt like that to me either.

[00:38:31]
Yeah.

[00:38:31]
This, this felt like a new experience.

[00:38:33]
And I knew he was going to look like him because I've seen them, you know, the

[00:38:36]
marketing and all that stuff.

[00:38:37]
But yeah, he, he does not feel like solid snake and you, you play differently.

[00:38:42]
Right.

[00:38:42]
Cause you're, you are technically a different person.

[00:38:44]
And that's for sure.

[00:38:45]
I love, that's the stuff I love.

[00:38:46]
Like I said, they're just having fun with it.

[00:38:48]
They know that they can kind of do whatever they want.

[00:38:51]
And we're probably going to eat it up.

[00:38:52]
Like they're, they're at that point now.

[00:38:54]
And this is what makes the most fun of it.

[00:38:56]
Like this is the best part cause they just are like, yeah, whatever.

[00:38:59]
We're just going to throw everything on the sandwich and you're going to eat it.

[00:39:02]
Plus, I mean, this was trying to be a Bond movie and literally every way I could.

[00:39:07]
So if you don't have some scantily clad femme fatale, what is it?

[00:39:12]
What even is the point?

[00:39:13]
You know, right?

[00:39:14]
Yeah.

[00:39:15]
Especially one that, and it's just, it's so interesting.

[00:39:18]
And so now they're, they're having a conversation.

[00:39:20]
He gives her, so he talks about her gun.

[00:39:22]
He's got to say that it's a Chinese imitation, things like that.

[00:39:25]
She gives him the, the custom M 19 11 a, I believe is the exact letter.

[00:39:32]
But he, oh boy, he loves guns.

[00:39:35]
Huh?

[00:39:36]
What do you think?

[00:39:36]
He gets so weird about this gun.

[00:39:38]
Dude.

[00:39:39]
Yeah.

[00:39:39]
There's like, he's getting real handsy with it.

[00:39:41]
He's touching all the little pieces.

[00:39:42]
Really uncomfortable piece of porn.

[00:39:46]
Oh, yeah.

[00:39:47]
It is.

[00:39:47]
It's gun porn.

[00:39:48]
It really is gun porn.

[00:39:49]
Yeah.

[00:39:49]
It's a great line at the end where he does say like, you know, every little piece of

[00:39:53]
this has been customized.

[00:39:54]
Like I love that.

[00:39:55]
Whoa, we're in your voices.

[00:39:57]
You're really good.

[00:39:57]
Oh, thanks.

[00:39:58]
The, the walk to it, I'll unveil my the pain when we get there because I've been working

[00:40:03]
on that.

[00:40:03]
Yes, good.

[00:40:05]
So I, it is creepy though.

[00:40:07]
The, how he touches the gun.

[00:40:09]
He's talking about other slides been released.

[00:40:11]
He's rocking back and forth like he's on drugs.

[00:40:13]
Yeah.

[00:40:14]
And I always, I always get a crack up when someone takes a gun that is unloaded and

[00:40:18]
they got to like, and they got to shoot it.

[00:40:21]
And it's like, did you notice anything different?

[00:40:23]
Cause it's empty.

[00:40:24]
Like did you want to make sure it fired clean?

[00:40:26]
Like, I don't know.

[00:40:27]
It just, I never got that, but it's a dope gun and it looks cool as shit.

[00:40:32]
And I want one.

[00:40:33]
I'd never use this gun ever again.

[00:40:36]
Same dude.

[00:40:37]
Same.

[00:40:37]
No, I don't, I don't either because I, I generally like to be Mr.

[00:40:41]
Sandman.

[00:40:42]
I don't like to kill if I don't have to.

[00:40:43]
And if I do, I'm going to use a machine gun.

[00:40:45]
Yeah.

[00:40:45]
Why use a handgun when you have a rocket launcher.

[00:40:48]
For sure.

[00:40:49]
Grenades.

[00:40:49]
I try to do a non lethal playthrough, uh, this is not going so well.

[00:40:54]
It's so hard.

[00:40:55]
Uh, you know, I promised to kill.

[00:40:57]
So, but yeah, kind of lost track this episode.

[00:41:03]
Oh man.

[00:41:04]
Yeah.

[00:41:04]
And I'm doing, I'm doing two playthroughs at the same time so that I can,

[00:41:08]
cause it did take me a bit to like remember how to play this game.

[00:41:11]
There is a couple of things that, you know, third person shooters sort of

[00:41:14]
changed since MGS three came out.

[00:41:16]
So I played through and I'm like, how do I, I was like, wait, hold on.

[00:41:19]
I have to press this button to pull the gun out.

[00:41:22]
Then I have to press this button to turn it into first person mode.

[00:41:25]
And then I have to press another button to shoot, but I can't move it.

[00:41:29]
Or if I do, they'll hear the, the fact that the gun fired.

[00:41:32]
So I'm like, this is a nightmare.

[00:41:33]
So I was like, I'll just kill everyone in this playthrough.

[00:41:35]
And once I figure out, I'll play another place and I'll get good and I'll do

[00:41:39]
stealth cause I really do want to do the stealth.

[00:41:40]
I love getting the camos from the bosses and things like that.

[00:41:43]
That I love that sort of like reward for knowing the game or at least being good

[00:41:49]
enough to die a bunch to get good at it.

[00:41:51]
Yeah.

[00:41:51]
It takes patience.

[00:41:52]
That's for sure.

[00:41:53]
It takes a while to rediscovery that muscle memory.

[00:41:57]
Definitely.

[00:41:59]
So now we meet Eva.

[00:42:00]
She is doing a lot of stuff for us and she gives us a whole plan.

[00:42:05]
Hey, I got a scientist out for you.

[00:42:07]
We're going to sneak you into the lab so you can get, you know, get your hands

[00:42:11]
on Sokolov, you know, we'll be out tomorrow.

[00:42:14]
More and it'll be great.

[00:42:16]
Uh, they do do the trope where let's get started now.

[00:42:19]
No, you're exhausted.

[00:42:20]
No, I'm not fall asleep right away.

[00:42:22]
Like that kind of thing.

[00:42:23]
Oh yeah.

[00:42:23]
Uh, I do love it cause it is a trope, but I got something to say about this part too.

[00:42:28]
Somebody, I can't remember who it was.

[00:42:30]
I think it was in the discord, uh, accommodate on the fact that we talked

[00:42:33]
about snakes, weird, um, like Japan, a mission overly exertive style.

[00:42:41]
When he said, this can't be happening.

[00:42:43]
Happening.

[00:42:44]
Yeah.

[00:42:45]
And, uh, he has another moment like this during the scene with Eva.

[00:42:49]
She tells him he should, he ought to rest because it's a, you know, it's jungle

[00:42:53]
out there and, uh, even as skilled as you are a snake, you're tired and you need

[00:42:59]
to just have, have a lie down.

[00:43:02]
Yeah.

[00:43:02]
And paramaric chimes in doctors orders.

[00:43:04]
Yeah.

[00:43:05]
Well, besides that.

[00:43:07]
And, uh, so he's, he's reluctant and she goes, what's wrong?

[00:43:10]
You can't trust me.

[00:43:10]
And he goes, he like really wrangles his, you know, brings his hands together.

[00:43:15]
And he bends down really far and he goes, I don't know if I can trust anybody.

[00:43:21]
It's just so dramatic.

[00:43:23]
And speaking of twin peaks references, it reminded me of literally every character

[00:43:28]
in twin peaks, especially James.

[00:43:31]
Oh, I don't know if I can trust anybody.

[00:43:34]
You know what I mean?

[00:43:35]
Chris, I figured you would be right along with this one.

[00:43:38]
Yeah.

[00:43:39]
The twin peaks thing reminds me of something.

[00:43:46]
He does this like Dale Cooper's thing.

[00:43:49]
Right.

[00:43:50]
Yeah.

[00:43:50]
And what, what do you mean?

[00:43:52]
Which one?

[00:43:53]
In the way, I think that he kind of narrates to us what's going on.

[00:43:57]
Yes.

[00:43:58]
Totally agree.

[00:43:58]
Right.

[00:43:59]
Not as on the nose, but he definitely does it.

[00:44:02]
Yeah.

[00:44:03]
Like it's almost like the Diane thing.

[00:44:05]
Right.

[00:44:06]
And he does have the same thing.

[00:44:08]
It's just, you know, wrapped around his ear and on his belt.

[00:44:10]
But he erases on his chest.

[00:44:12]
Yeah.

[00:44:12]
That's, is that your read on, I don't know if I can trust anybody.

[00:44:17]
Yeah.

[00:44:17]
I mean, I'm a flawed character either.

[00:44:20]
This is like, twin peaksy in the sense of it's like very the soap opera side of that.

[00:44:26]
Yeah.

[00:44:26]
The melodramatic.

[00:44:27]
It's so much melodrama going on in this game,

[00:44:31]
especially when you're just supposed to be capturing and killing people.

[00:44:35]
Yeah.

[00:44:36]
Drop this on you an hour in.

[00:44:38]
Yeah.

[00:44:40]
Anyway, I always just thought that part was really funny because his, I don't know,

[00:44:43]
his body language at certain points through the game or just really over

[00:44:50]
exaggerated, I think, and this is another moment like that.

[00:44:53]
I clocked.

[00:44:54]
Which are the best.

[00:44:55]
And that's the thing that makes us, it's the camp.

[00:44:57]
Like you expect it.

[00:44:58]
Yeah.

[00:44:58]
Like, and they call it out.

[00:45:00]
Like we'll get to it in future story episodes, but there are a couple of times

[00:45:03]
where like people's movements or sounds are like mocked by other characters.

[00:45:07]
Yeah.

[00:45:08]
And yeah.

[00:45:09]
And I love that they're, you know, I love that they're aware of it.

[00:45:12]
The characters in the game are aware of the stupid shit that other characters do

[00:45:16]
in this game.

[00:45:17]
Yeah.

[00:45:18]
Amazing.

[00:45:18]
Yeah.

[00:45:19]
So Eva gives us the plan.

[00:45:21]
We take a nap.

[00:45:22]
We wake up.

[00:45:23]
We're kind of woken up out of our little nap and Eva's getting dressed.

[00:45:28]
So we get another little, little shot of her putting her little jumpsuit on.

[00:45:33]
And you can still get a closer look if you'd like, you know, see those.

[00:45:38]
It's great underwear she's got on.

[00:45:42]
And she's just wearing a bathing suit.

[00:45:43]
You guys, that's all it is.

[00:45:44]
Yeah.

[00:45:45]
It's pretty much what it is.

[00:45:46]
And we, Snake recognizes that someone's out, someone's outside or someone's in,

[00:45:52]
in the area and she's like, well, what do you, what are you here?

[00:45:54]
What are you here?

[00:45:55]
You know, you look out.

[00:45:56]
I love that that's one thing I love about with 3D games, at least when they try to

[00:45:59]
do cinematic, I love that they have like the shot of him and the window.

[00:46:02]
And you can see the guys in the background.

[00:46:04]
He looks out.

[00:46:05]
I see four of them.

[00:46:07]
And this is like, I guess the first mini boss fight.

[00:46:10]
I guess you wouldn't call it a boss fight because it's not an actual like boss,

[00:46:13]
boss, but this is, you got to clear it basically.

[00:46:18]
The gruer coming after you.

[00:46:19]
Yeah.

[00:46:20]
Eva's like, I can't get caught.

[00:46:22]
They can't know I'm here.

[00:46:23]
So I'm going to sneak out through the secret passage at the underneath the

[00:46:28]
bed here and I'll catch you later and we'll meet up on the flip flop.

[00:46:33]
So, bye.

[00:46:35]
Yeah.

[00:46:36]
So I actually love this sub boss thing.

[00:46:41]
I feel like I'm on my own here.

[00:46:43]
It's one of the cooler moments of the game for sure.

[00:46:45]
I love this moment.

[00:46:46]
The only thing I don't like is that they have the little thing that says like,

[00:46:49]
how many enemies are left?

[00:46:51]
It's the only thing that like kind of gets a little like, all right, like,

[00:46:54]
would you know that I could see if you tagged them?

[00:46:57]
Like maybe that was something you could do is you could see them and it would

[00:46:59]
remember that like, okay, you already knocked out the guy on the left.

[00:47:03]
So you actually have seven of the eight guys you've seen left.

[00:47:06]
Yeah.

[00:47:06]
Something like that would have been cooler, but just the fact that it has like

[00:47:08]
the ticker that never bothered me from the get go because, because of where I

[00:47:15]
was at as a video game player by the time this game was coming out, I didn't

[00:47:21]
feel all that confident in my, uh, selling skills and being able to get around

[00:47:27]
totally undetected.

[00:47:28]
So knowing how many I still had to look for made me a little cautious and it

[00:47:32]
made me rely on other things like the sonar and the motion detector, which I

[00:47:37]
kind of appreciated.

[00:47:39]
I do agree now having played it, I don't know, a dozen times maybe in my life.

[00:47:44]
I think it could add to the mystery a little bit without having that counter.

[00:47:48]
But I will, I will say as like a new player, a relatively new player to the

[00:47:53]
series going into play this game that was kind of appreciated by me.

[00:47:59]
Sure.

[00:48:00]
Yeah.

[00:48:00]
It's appreciated.

[00:48:01]
I just got looking back.

[00:48:03]
I'm like, well, but I still, I love this.

[00:48:05]
So did anybody have like, is anybody like, did they try to be sneaky?

[00:48:09]
Did what was your like, what was your way to get through and get everybody?

[00:48:12]
Did you try to throw the, like the stun grenades that get the four guys coming

[00:48:16]
at you and then try to sneak out or did everybody go underneath the bed and

[00:48:20]
start sneaking around like they, the game kind of showed you.

[00:48:23]
I, I hid in the closet and then I snuck out the door.

[00:48:31]
Okay.

[00:48:32]
Yeah.

[00:48:32]
I did not do that.

[00:48:33]
So that's interesting.

[00:48:34]
So, so what happens with that?

[00:48:35]
Did they just move, move?

[00:48:36]
And they just, they don't notice you.

[00:48:38]
So I just wait for the last one to say move, move.

[00:48:40]
And I just kind of peek and I sneak behind those boxes.

[00:48:44]
And then you can see the last ones.

[00:48:47]
He has his head stuck through the doorway.

[00:48:49]
So you can like, if you're fast and you do it right, you can hit him and he'll drop.

[00:48:54]
And someone will be like, whoa, what was that?

[00:48:57]
And he'll come in the doorway and you just go pop right in the head and he drops.

[00:49:01]
And they're like, whoa, what was that?

[00:49:03]
And the other one will just keep coming.

[00:49:04]
Like, yeah.

[00:49:05]
That's amazing.

[00:49:06]
So you can, you can get like a good number of them out of the way.

[00:49:12]
I think three guards in total.

[00:49:14]
Chris, this counted as your body count, right?

[00:49:18]
Well, hold on.

[00:49:20]
Things went terribly wrong for me because I wasn't as quick.

[00:49:25]
So I boomed and rushed me and I was like in the corner, right?

[00:49:30]
And all I had was the train down out.

[00:49:32]
So I pulled out the AK 47 and I'm just there.

[00:49:37]
Screaming.

[00:49:40]
Get away from me.

[00:49:42]
Oh, that's amazing.

[00:49:44]
Yeah. So I killed all five of them.

[00:49:48]
I thought I think there are eight.

[00:49:49]
Or I had eight.

[00:49:50]
I killed five of them that way.

[00:49:52]
And then after the first three, there's the guy on the roof.

[00:49:56]
Yeah. I drank him and I drank the other two that were not like in that cluster

[00:50:01]
that moves around.

[00:50:02]
Yeah. The four, the four man group.

[00:50:04]
Because there's one that's like far, far away.

[00:50:07]
And there's another that's like right by the door, the exit area.

[00:50:12]
So what about you, Tori?

[00:50:13]
Do you have any?

[00:50:14]
Were you Mr. Samman?

[00:50:16]
Oh, yeah, I have a I have a strategy for this part that I.

[00:50:21]
Oh, we got programmer strats.

[00:50:23]
I can't. Yeah, I can't.

[00:50:24]
I can't walk away from this, this way of doing things, because it's just always

[00:50:28]
worked for me.

[00:50:29]
So I take the bait.

[00:50:31]
I'll go ahead and crawl underneath the quote unquote factory.

[00:50:34]
First, just because when I like a little crawling to, I can always find a meal

[00:50:38]
down there or two.

[00:50:40]
True. That's true.

[00:50:42]
So then I moved towards the opening crawl space out of the factory basement,

[00:50:48]
I guess is what you call it.

[00:50:50]
The one that went through like the, yeah, you went through like the actual event,

[00:50:53]
not like the hole in the wall.

[00:50:55]
Sorry. The hole in the wall.

[00:50:56]
Yeah. Oh, okay.

[00:50:57]
Go keep going then.

[00:50:58]
So go through the vent as you're talking.

[00:51:00]
Oh yeah.

[00:51:01]
Okay.

[00:51:01]
I know what you're talking about.

[00:51:02]
No, that will come into play here in a little bit.

[00:51:04]
Oh, nice.

[00:51:05]
If I, if I understand you correctly.

[00:51:07]
So yeah, I always crawl up the hole that leads you to like the south,

[00:51:11]
the southern point of the map first.

[00:51:14]
And there's usually, if I time it right, there's a guard standing right there

[00:51:17]
that I'll trink.

[00:51:18]
And I don't know, it depends on how impatient I'm feeling.

[00:51:22]
Sometimes I'll trink him once and wait for him to fall down.

[00:51:25]
Sometimes I'll just throw like five or six of them at him in a row.

[00:51:30]
It just depends.

[00:51:31]
Once he's down, I'll crawl to the east of the map and get that guard.

[00:51:35]
That's over kind of by the ladder up to the roof.

[00:51:39]
And then I'll crawl up to the roof and CQC that guard up there.

[00:51:43]
And then is where it gets a little more interesting because the guards on the

[00:51:48]
ground that are left are usually moving in some sort of formation,

[00:51:52]
some sort of pattern.

[00:51:54]
So that's when the motion detector and sonar sometimes come into play for me.

[00:51:58]
If I'm real lucky, I'll fuck up and get caught while trying to, uh,

[00:52:03]
to spot them when you're lucky you get caught.

[00:52:05]
Oh yeah, for sure.

[00:52:06]
It makes things more interesting, uh, while trying to tag him from the roof.

[00:52:10]
And if that happens, I'll, I'll usually crawl back under the factory and then

[00:52:14]
I'll climb out under the broken pieces of flooring that are kind of just holes

[00:52:19]
in the wall, right?

[00:52:20]
Which I think is what you're talking about.

[00:52:21]
Yeah.

[00:52:22]
So improvised holes.

[00:52:24]
Yeah.

[00:52:24]
I, so I, I'll sneak under the bed and I will.

[00:52:28]
Stay underneath and just cap the foot of the guy where like the

[00:52:31]
vent color is, get him in the foot.

[00:52:34]
I got plenty of time.

[00:52:35]
I'll start crawling back.

[00:52:35]
There's a hole in the wall to my left.

[00:52:37]
Crawl out the hole in the wall to the left.

[00:52:39]
Got my little stack of boxes.

[00:52:41]
Do a little peek through on the side of the boxes.

[00:52:43]
Okay.

[00:52:43]
The guy right there by the ladder.

[00:52:45]
Take a couple of steps back, look straight up.

[00:52:47]
You'll see eventually that guy on the roof is going to poke out just a little

[00:52:50]
bit, clip him right at the top, crawl the ladder.

[00:52:53]
And then all I do is just slowly sit up top at the roof and just shoot them

[00:52:58]
one by one until they're done.

[00:53:00]
That's a maneuver.

[00:53:02]
It took me a long time to get good at it.

[00:53:04]
And I couldn't believe it.

[00:53:05]
It only took me two times this time to actually like remember it.

[00:53:09]
I was like, Oh right.

[00:53:10]
The thing on the left.

[00:53:11]
And you can also kill the rats.

[00:53:13]
Um, or at least you can shrink the rats and eat them for later.

[00:53:16]
You can trap them that are underneath.

[00:53:18]
So if you need some food as well.

[00:53:20]
See like this game and the first Metal Gear Solid are the two that I've

[00:53:24]
played the most.

[00:53:25]
And I have like these specific kind of strats for each section of the game.

[00:53:31]
And I just, even when I try to force myself to play differently, I kind of

[00:53:34]
fall into these patterns of like, Oh, yeah, I just do the thing because it's

[00:53:38]
like, it's comforting in a way, but it's also like nostalgic that like you're

[00:53:44]
playing through the game like you were when you were younger or whatever.

[00:53:48]
Agreed.

[00:53:49]
So we knock them all out.

[00:53:50]
Yes.

[00:53:51]
We are ready to go.

[00:53:53]
We're going to go find out and we meet again, Mr.

[00:53:57]
Ocelot, who, who's not happy about what just happened.

[00:54:04]
And he, Eva's trying to get out and he basically, I guess gets her in like a

[00:54:10]
little hole in the back.

[00:54:11]
He's kind of pervy, a little gropey.

[00:54:14]
It's pretty, you can tell Eva's a woman without having to, having to be so

[00:54:17]
handsy, but he does smell the perfume, which they do call later.

[00:54:22]
And of course, Snake has to school Ocelot again, because now Ocelot has a revolver.

[00:54:31]
And I do love the scene though, between the whole concept of him.

[00:54:36]
She gets out of it.

[00:54:37]
They fight off.

[00:54:38]
I look ridiculous cycle flip smacks him in the head.

[00:54:42]
She runs off to get out to go towards the lab.

[00:54:46]
And it's such a badass line though of the, there's only one thing, you know, you

[00:54:50]
don't have what it takes to kill me.

[00:54:52]
Oh my God.

[00:54:53]
I love that.

[00:54:53]
And he's like, what?

[00:54:54]
And he starts like, and he goes to shoot and it's empty.

[00:54:56]
And he's like, six shots, six shots.

[00:54:59]
That thing only carries six shots.

[00:55:02]
The macro carries eight.

[00:55:05]
Before that, though, like in the middle of that, that's something I noted as, as

[00:55:10]
being a favorite part of this whole scene for me.

[00:55:12]
I love that she takes advantage of that little stair down they have after

[00:55:16]
Snake says, you don't have what it takes to beat me.

[00:55:19]
And they just have their little bro off for a minute.

[00:55:22]
Meanwhile, Eva just like takes a look left, takes a look right.

[00:55:25]
And is like, Oh, no, I'm, I'm free to escape this moment.

[00:55:28]
Great.

[00:55:29]
So she fucking, what does she do?

[00:55:30]
She brings her foot up over her head and kicks him or does she elbow him?

[00:55:34]
I can't remember what she does, but whatever it is, it's fucking badass.

[00:55:38]
And then she does a flip onto her bike to leave.

[00:55:41]
Like.

[00:55:42]
It's so good.

[00:55:43]
All right.

[00:55:43]
And like, what is this bike thing she does?

[00:55:46]
Oh, I know.

[00:55:47]
It's, it's like a sizzle reel from a Fast and Furious movie.

[00:55:50]
Like she's, she's, she's like cutting a promo.

[00:55:52]
If like, she's a wrestler to be like, yo, I can be part of this.

[00:55:54]
She's so good.

[00:55:55]
She's good at everything.

[00:55:56]
Yeah.

[00:55:57]
It's incredible.

[00:55:58]
She can hold her own.

[00:55:59]
She's got that dope gun.

[00:56:00]
The bike is like an extension of her.

[00:56:03]
But she, yeah, she jumps over the whole building.

[00:56:05]
This is like, where is there a ramp to do that?

[00:56:07]
Almost like a grindhouse.

[00:56:10]
Planet.

[00:56:11]
Type.

[00:56:11]
Yeah.

[00:56:11]
It's exactly what it is.

[00:56:13]
Movie ripoff.

[00:56:13]
It's so good.

[00:56:14]
Let's talk about that movie sometime.

[00:56:16]
Yeah.

[00:56:17]
And it does so great.

[00:56:18]
And I love it because without her, you can't leave because she has to break the fence down.

[00:56:23]
So it's all story focused, which is fantastic.

[00:56:26]
And Ocelot sort of does his hand thing and gets out.

[00:56:32]
And now we're on our way.

[00:56:33]
Do this like in real life.

[00:56:35]
I just, other than shooter McGavin and happy Gilmore.

[00:56:37]
Oh, God damn it.

[00:56:38]
You're right.

[00:56:39]
I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast.

[00:56:41]
You eat pieces of shit for breakfast.

[00:56:45]
So yeah.

[00:56:46]
So now we are on our way.

[00:56:47]
We, we are aware that the, the lab is in that direction.

[00:56:53]
So we're going to head that way.

[00:56:54]
And we have a couple of really cool maps.

[00:56:56]
So what does a great job here?

[00:56:58]
And I know Chris, you had mentioned it as it's another way to expand the gameplay.

[00:57:03]
Yeah.

[00:57:03]
So everything's a little bit bigger.

[00:57:05]
You can go up, you can go down, you can crawl, you can climb.

[00:57:09]
You can use some of the tools you've already gotten, you know, like you found,

[00:57:12]
like there's so many little pieces.

[00:57:13]
And then of course there are dogs.

[00:57:17]
How do we feel about dogs guys?

[00:57:19]
You like Dags?

[00:57:22]
I hate having to shut them up.

[00:57:24]
About the dogs.

[00:57:27]
I do feel bad too.

[00:57:29]
But after the last of us two, I don't care.

[00:57:31]
Chris, I need to know.

[00:57:33]
I need to know this might totally change how I perceive you as a human.

[00:57:37]
How do you handle these dogs, man?

[00:57:39]
Are they a part of your body count?

[00:57:40]
I tranq them.

[00:57:42]
Okay.

[00:57:42]
I never put the dogs down.

[00:57:44]
If I can help it.

[00:57:46]
It is cool though that they get up faster.

[00:57:48]
Yeah.

[00:57:49]
Yeah.

[00:57:49]
They make a noise when they get tranqed.

[00:57:51]
Yes.

[00:57:52]
That others can hear like that.

[00:57:54]
Yeah.

[00:57:54]
And that's all, like, I hate dogs for that reason, but it's awesome.

[00:57:58]
So they didn't add your body count.

[00:58:00]
We're not killing Dags.

[00:58:01]
No, no, no Dags, but the Dags did, you know, catch the attention of a guard.

[00:58:07]
Who then became part of my body count.

[00:58:12]
I keep trying to interrogate the people and then I just slit their throats.

[00:58:17]
Yeah.

[00:58:17]
Not wanting to do that.

[00:58:18]
I just want to talk.

[00:58:20]
You know, I just, I just want to talk.

[00:58:22]
There should be.

[00:58:23]
And I just want to talk.

[00:58:24]
But no, I'm going to slit your throat.

[00:58:28]
Oh man.

[00:58:29]
Same though.

[00:58:30]
That's just an everyday struggle, right?

[00:58:32]
Yeah.

[00:58:33]
I keep meaning to interrogate this person, but I accidentally murder them.

[00:58:36]
Oh well.

[00:58:38]
Moving on, I guess.

[00:58:40]
Yeah.

[00:58:41]
I do love how, like I said, it expands the gameplay.

[00:58:44]
So if you, it does reward being a little more curious about what's going on to the

[00:58:49]
right to the left, you don't just have to go.

[00:58:51]
All right.

[00:58:51]
I gotta get past this fence.

[00:58:52]
Like you find camo, you find extra ammo, you had silencer, like you find a bunch of

[00:58:57]
random items you don't need, but it's, it's at least like I made a wrong turn,

[00:59:01]
but at least you're sort of justified in doing it.

[00:59:04]
Yeah.

[00:59:04]
It's really cool.

[00:59:05]
So it works in your favor.

[00:59:07]
And I love, again, it's just like, it's generic, but perfect gameplay.

[00:59:11]
And like games like Mega Man X do, it's like, Hey, there's a tree to climb.

[00:59:14]
Remember climbing trees, snake?

[00:59:16]
Do the action, get over the fence, look for the thing that's not sparking.

[00:59:19]
Find the little markings on the ground.

[00:59:21]
Like they, they want you to track.

[00:59:22]
They want you to use the first person and the camera that is pretty special to

[00:59:28]
Metal Gear Solid 3.

[00:59:29]
And it's really good game design.

[00:59:32]
And it's really impressive that in 2004 there were, you know, Devil May Cry

[00:59:36]
two comes out and that game is terrible.

[00:59:39]
And next, next to it is this game.

[00:59:42]
And it's like, how are they on the same system?

[00:59:44]
How is this even like it's so next level game design for its time.

[00:59:50]
And I love each piece.

[00:59:52]
And that's sometimes it's just crocodiles.

[00:59:54]
You know, there's not even, there's not even soldiers that are the problem.

[00:59:56]
Yeah.

[00:59:57]
Did anybody get that croc cap?

[00:59:59]
That's the croc cap, the sweet croc meat.

[01:00:01]
That's the best.

[01:00:03]
Oh, of course.

[01:00:03]
The type of walk is difficult.

[01:00:05]
Is it's terrible.

[01:00:07]
Do you guys climb it?

[01:00:08]
You don't do the, yeah, you don't do like the monkey bars thing to it.

[01:00:11]
Kind of just like, yeah.

[01:00:13]
It's easier to drop down on the second one if you don't walk it.

[01:00:16]
Mm hmm.

[01:00:17]
I walk it and I always.

[01:00:18]
Oh man.

[01:00:19]
You're adding extra headaches to your game.

[01:00:21]
Yeah, dude.

[01:00:22]
Yeah.

[01:00:22]
I love this section of the game.

[01:00:24]
The next room after the ossivates is called.

[01:00:29]
Let me get my Russian out here.

[01:00:31]
Oh, here it comes.

[01:00:33]
Chris is Russian.

[01:00:34]
Listen, no, no.

[01:00:37]
It's a charny prude, which means black pond or black lake.

[01:00:44]
Perfect.

[01:00:44]
Which is appropriate.

[01:00:45]
But I love this room in the game.

[01:00:47]
It like I have a save file that's here, you know, and I don't delete it.

[01:00:54]
But it's really nice to just like sit in a swamp with the rain, you know, and you

[01:00:59]
hear all this wildlife, like birds and crocodiles and frogs.

[01:01:04]
And it's really easily one of my favorite moments of the game because you just

[01:01:08]
have this boss fight and now you've you're just in nature again.

[01:01:13]
Right.

[01:01:13]
Right.

[01:01:13]
Yeah.

[01:01:14]
And I guess we never really mentioned that too.

[01:01:15]
Like that, like the constant just jungle noise.

[01:01:19]
Yeah.

[01:01:19]
You know, you're here, you're hearing monkeys or you're hearing maybe some kind

[01:01:22]
of a bird in the background.

[01:01:23]
Yeah.

[01:01:24]
You guys know that I have birds in my house, right?

[01:01:27]
You guys know I live with birds.

[01:01:29]
Sure.

[01:01:29]
Yeah.

[01:01:30]
Can you imagine what it's like?

[01:01:31]
Do they respond to it?

[01:01:32]
Oh, yeah.

[01:01:33]
Oh, definitely.

[01:01:34]
Can you imagine what it's like hearing this on the TV and then getting a

[01:01:37]
response like from another room upstairs?

[01:01:40]
That's crazy.

[01:01:41]
That's great.

[01:01:42]
I've got specifically a con year, which is for those of you who know me on the

[01:01:47]
Discord community years or follow me on Instagram.

[01:01:51]
This picture that Sean has drawn for me includes my con year, which I think is just

[01:01:57]
rad.

[01:01:58]
Uh, and he is the most vocal one out of all of them.

[01:02:01]
Every time I'm playing this and happen to be traipsing through the jungle, I can

[01:02:05]
guarantee a little bit of a conversation from him because I don't know if he's

[01:02:10]
into it or what, but he gets awfully chatty when I'm in this part of the game.

[01:02:14]
Sweet baby.

[01:02:16]
That's great.

[01:02:17]
It's really nice.

[01:02:18]
I did is something I love though, that is unique.

[01:02:22]
I think two mil gear solid three is that it feels super dense, you know, and they

[01:02:29]
never, ever, ever replicate this in the series.

[01:02:33]
It's not open world, but it really doesn't need to be because the atmosphere is

[01:02:39]
so well done that you have detailed.

[01:02:41]
Yeah.

[01:02:42]
And you have the opportunities for the same open world play style.

[01:02:46]
You just don't have to like mindlessly go across a field for 10 minutes or whatever

[01:02:51]
to right following, following a map marker.

[01:02:53]
Yeah.

[01:02:54]
Which is really just like a fucking loading screen or whatever, but it's just tight

[01:02:59]
condensed gameplay.

[01:03:01]
Right.

[01:03:02]
Well, that's why I love that we don't have a sonar or not a sonar.

[01:03:06]
Uh, solid solid, thank you.

[01:03:09]
A solid ton radar, uh, coming from metal gear solid one and two, where you can

[01:03:15]
actively rely on that to know what you're coming up against.

[01:03:18]
And I know you have a sonar and motion detectors here, but even those run out of

[01:03:23]
battery and you have to kind of keep track of how much you're using them.

[01:03:28]
It just added a whole new layer of, of this is survival first and foremost.

[01:03:34]
Yeah.

[01:03:34]
Definitely.

[01:03:35]
Yeah.

[01:03:37]
So we keep moving forward and we start to really get to, I guess, like a, like a barracks

[01:03:43]
or whatever you want to call it.

[01:03:44]
Like it's like a little fort where now we're going against, you know, seven, eight,

[01:03:49]
maybe 10 guys.

[01:03:50]
You have a helicopter off to the right hand side.

[01:03:52]
He's kind of doing rounds.

[01:03:54]
Got a couple of guys, I guess they're like anti air guns or whatever sitting right

[01:03:58]
there.

[01:03:58]
There's like these big like 12 millimeters and you got some guys maybe sitting at

[01:04:03]
a table lunch, like in the room and you can see them through the glass.

[01:04:08]
And I love the idea of like, all right, let's get the one guy.

[01:04:13]
So I can like get in and I'll sneak, I'll go right in the, in the trenches.

[01:04:17]
I'll just keep crawling.

[01:04:18]
Trance warfarin baby.

[01:04:19]
And then pop up up and then just do what I got to do.

[01:04:21]
And I will take like a 400 yard shot with a Trent gun every day of the week.

[01:04:26]
If I can see that guy's head, I don't care how far he is.

[01:04:29]
I will literally, I will wait.

[01:04:31]
That's ballsy.

[01:04:32]
Getting closer.

[01:04:32]
Yeah.

[01:04:33]
Just in case.

[01:04:33]
Yeah.

[01:04:34]
Cause if it whizzes past their head and it goes into like the trees, they don't

[01:04:38]
react to the point where they're looking for you.

[01:04:40]
They recognize something was off, but it's not like now they got to hunt down.

[01:04:44]
If you miss and it like hits a wall or something or a tree or something where

[01:04:48]
they can kind of, I guess, recognize that it was a gunshot, they will be like,

[01:04:52]
what was that?

[01:04:53]
And then, then you're in caution and you're like, oh shit, like this is the

[01:04:56]
worst idea ever, but this is another piece.

[01:04:59]
It's the other half of that.

[01:05:01]
The world's building.

[01:05:02]
So now if you want to do a little bit more than just going out, you know,

[01:05:07]
dodging the traps and dodging, I guess the electric wire, you can find that they

[01:05:12]
have like medical stations there.

[01:05:14]
You can find they have food barracks there and ammunition huts.

[01:05:18]
Yeah.

[01:05:18]
You can choose to destroy them or just steal all the stuff that's in there.

[01:05:22]
What did, did you guys do either of those?

[01:05:24]
Did you explore this area?

[01:05:27]
I did.

[01:05:27]
Yeah.

[01:05:27]
I went everywhere.

[01:05:28]
So the area with the dogs before it, and then the base area, this is Bolshaya

[01:05:34]
past, which is Russian for big mouth.

[01:05:39]
Nice.

[01:05:40]
Sure.

[01:05:40]
Right.

[01:05:41]
And it makes sense because the next area that you go to after the base is called

[01:05:44]
Bolshaya past crevasse.

[01:05:46]
So it's big mouth crevasse.

[01:05:48]
It's a big hole in the ground, basically.

[01:05:50]
Yeah.

[01:05:50]
Yeah.

[01:05:51]
I like that.

[01:05:51]
Yeah.

[01:05:52]
Yeah.

[01:05:53]
It's very literal with the naming stuff here, but yeah, I love this part.

[01:05:58]
And like the, the base, you know, I blow up the helicopter every time.

[01:06:02]
I think it's so fun.

[01:06:04]
You can like, if you, and I love the details of you mess with their food supply.

[01:06:09]
The guards are hungrier.

[01:06:11]
Oh, I'm starving.

[01:06:12]
Yeah.

[01:06:13]
And they'll be more susceptible to stuff.

[01:06:16]
Uh, as far as like, if you kill an animal and just leave the ration there, they'll

[01:06:22]
come and get it.

[01:06:23]
Right.

[01:06:23]
And it could be, and it could be rotten.

[01:06:26]
Like whatever you got, it might not be good in there.

[01:06:28]
Like, oh, this is awful.

[01:06:30]
Or if you just like drop a rotten ration for them.

[01:06:33]
Yeah.

[01:06:33]
Yeah.

[01:06:33]
They'll actually be distracted by food.

[01:06:35]
Lure them to you and like get the tranquilizer headshots.

[01:06:40]
You know, it's great.

[01:06:41]
These are the things I love that they took the time to think about.

[01:06:44]
Luring.

[01:06:45]
Guards to you.

[01:06:47]
Normally I don't go for all of them, but I usually take out the ammunition

[01:06:51]
hut because then they, they don't usually have a lot more.

[01:06:55]
If they do fire at you, they run out of ammo way quicker and they have, they're

[01:06:58]
like forced to use their handguns, not their machine guns anymore.

[01:07:01]
I keep forgetting to play with those parts of it.

[01:07:03]
I just like reap whatever I can from this.

[01:07:07]
I never think about destroying it and keeping those guys from using them.

[01:07:11]
Right.

[01:07:11]
Yeah.

[01:07:12]
But it works and it's, it's cool.

[01:07:14]
It's just like, it's just an added piece and you, you might not get anything

[01:07:17]
out of it, but you're going to find extra silencers.

[01:07:19]
I don't believe you find a new gun in that area.

[01:07:21]
Do you find extra silencers there?

[01:07:24]
Yeah.

[01:07:24]
Yeah.

[01:07:24]
I think you find silencers.

[01:07:25]
I don't think you get a new.

[01:07:26]
Fucking where?

[01:07:27]
Yeah.

[01:07:27]
In the ammunition hut.

[01:07:28]
It's tucked in there.

[01:07:29]
I think it's like, it's a two silencer.

[01:07:31]
It's like silencers for the handgun and then you get, you know, a bunch of ammo

[01:07:35]
for what you can find.

[01:07:36]
Is it just for the M19 or is it for the Mark 22?

[01:07:40]
Good question.

[01:07:40]
I think it might be M19.

[01:07:42]
Yeah.

[01:07:43]
Okay.

[01:07:43]
It might not be a gun you actually use, but it is still incentivizing.

[01:07:47]
Good to know.

[01:07:48]
Now, are any of us hunting down the, the keratons?

[01:07:52]
Like the little, the little froggy boys?

[01:07:53]
If I have heard of them.

[01:07:54]
I'll shoot them.

[01:07:55]
But yeah.

[01:07:56]
If I see them, I have to shoot them.

[01:07:57]
Like I shot the one on top of the bridge.

[01:07:59]
Yeah.

[01:08:00]
Sure.

[01:08:00]
And I definitely shot the one like in the little office, like right down there by

[01:08:03]
like where they keep their folders.

[01:08:04]
Yeah.

[01:08:04]
I just love them.

[01:08:05]
The noises.

[01:08:05]
I don't, I don't know what the noise is supposed to be.

[01:08:08]
It reminds me of one of those like, uh, exactly the same thing.

[01:08:17]
Hmm.

[01:08:17]
All I hear is you gagging.

[01:08:19]
That's all I hear.

[01:08:21]
But it's just, it's like, wow.

[01:08:23]
Yeah, it just makes no sense.

[01:08:24]
Like, it's not a frog noise.

[01:08:26]
They're standing on two legs.

[01:08:28]
I don't know what they are.

[01:08:29]
They're keratons, I guess, but I don't, I don't understand what are they to sell

[01:08:33]
something?

[01:08:34]
Like what are they even here?

[01:08:36]
Just a little, I think Kojima just really likes Easter eggs and this was, uh,

[01:08:40]
because keraton is a, that's a Nintendo thing, isn't it?

[01:08:45]
I guess so.

[01:08:46]
Isn't it a piece of the Nintendo?

[01:08:48]
I think I'm being schooled right now.

[01:08:50]
Well, something or other.

[01:08:51]
So in the 3ds version, they replaced the keratons with a Yoshi's.

[01:08:56]
Yeah.

[01:08:57]
Oh, see, now that's why I always wanted to call them Yoshi's.

[01:09:00]
That makes sense.

[01:09:01]
That's interesting.

[01:09:02]
Okay.

[01:09:03]
I mean, I like that they make noise.

[01:09:04]
You can use them as sort of cover so they can't hear you.

[01:09:08]
If that's making noise or they'll go towards that.

[01:09:11]
So if you can get, shoot that off in the distance and it's making a noise, they'll

[01:09:13]
go chase that.

[01:09:14]
They will notice it.

[01:09:15]
And another thing before we move on, I have to make mention of this because I

[01:09:20]
think this is the first time I've encountered this.

[01:09:22]
They will also notice your stomach grumbling.

[01:09:25]
If you do not feed snake frequently enough, they do.

[01:09:29]
They really do.

[01:09:29]
I think it's bad enough.

[01:09:31]
His, his stomach will grumble loudly enough that from, so I was on the inside of

[01:09:36]
one of these huts.

[01:09:37]
I think it was just one of their barracks with a couple of cots in there.

[01:09:42]
It was on the inside of one of these huts.

[01:09:44]
And because we just came from the swamp where leeches are present and because

[01:09:48]
I'm a dumb ass and don't pay attention to my health bar or stamina bar.

[01:09:52]
I didn't get to removing the leech until about this area, which sucked my

[01:09:57]
stamina down like real quick.

[01:09:59]
And yeah.

[01:10:01]
So he had a nice little tummy grumble and you hear a guard on the other side of

[01:10:06]
this, this hut on the outside of it.

[01:10:08]
Go, what was that noise?

[01:10:10]
I'm like, Oh fuck.

[01:10:11]
So I'm like crawling under a cot to avoid him coming in here and seeing me.

[01:10:17]
It's really cool.

[01:10:17]
So just keep that in mind.

[01:10:19]
I know that you all got to feed your, your hungry snake boy.

[01:10:22]
So yeah, that's another thing too.

[01:10:23]
That always surprised me.

[01:10:24]
So they established that like there is a weight system, like an over encumberment

[01:10:30]
system in this game where you can only have so much in your bag and so much, you

[01:10:34]
know, I guess in your, in your, it's like a bag in a pack.

[01:10:37]
So you have like your guns and you have like your not guns.

[01:10:40]
And I was always so surprised that I thought like, I knew you can, but it

[01:10:44]
seems odd.

[01:10:45]
I try not to eat the food that's not like in my bag because I'm trying to like

[01:10:49]
be real as I can, like realistic, like, Oh, I just have 47 constrictor ease or

[01:10:55]
whatever, just like in my menu, I'll just snack on those.

[01:10:58]
So I try to only like pack what I need in between like areas and use that.

[01:11:03]
So I'm still, I pay a lot of attention to it.

[01:11:05]
So I'm still like, not safe scumming, but you're kind of like you're cheating.

[01:11:08]
Like if you're going to give me an over encumberment system, I try to stick to

[01:11:11]
the, the pack out, I guess, until I complete like a boss fight or something.

[01:11:15]
You know, I like the, the cut scenes that you see.

[01:11:19]
Yes.

[01:11:19]
And thank you for bringing these up.

[01:11:21]
The little clips they show you.

[01:11:24]
Yeah.

[01:11:24]
Like if you eat something for the first time, it shows you this projector of

[01:11:28]
like steak eating it.

[01:11:29]
And it's kind of like, it's gross.

[01:11:32]
Like the fish, there's one that's like this fish that's in these like, it's

[01:11:36]
wiggling and he's like, and then he goes like, yeah, he just goes to town.

[01:11:43]
In this wiggling fish that he's struggling to hold in two arms.

[01:11:47]
And you hear, it's like squishing.

[01:11:50]
Yeah.

[01:11:51]
Yeah.

[01:11:51]
You hear it.

[01:11:51]
It's a lot of wet mouth sounds.

[01:11:54]
Who likes God?

[01:11:58]
That wasn't, that wasn't a request.

[01:11:59]
You were saying just for that.

[01:12:04]
But man, it's, but you're right.

[01:12:05]
It's cool.

[01:12:06]
And I love the idea.

[01:12:07]
And yeah, you can use like when you have the leeches, you can use your

[01:12:10]
cigar to burn them off.

[01:12:11]
Yes.

[01:12:11]
And a little clips for that too.

[01:12:13]
Right.

[01:12:13]
That's, I love that stuff is super fun.

[01:12:16]
And I do know that.

[01:12:17]
Yeah.

[01:12:17]
Go ahead.

[01:12:19]
I was just going to say your whole loading out your pack scenario.

[01:12:23]
This is kind of the reason behind my quote unquote survivalist play.

[01:12:27]
I decided it for the first time ever that I wasn't going to pick up any food

[01:12:31]
unless I intended on eating it like here pretty soon.

[01:12:34]
And that's what led me to this whole snake stomach is grumbling so loudly

[01:12:40]
that girls can hear him because I'd, you know, it was too little too late.

[01:12:43]
By the time I got here, I didn't have any food to pick up or acquire.

[01:12:48]
And I don't know.

[01:12:49]
I think it's fun to load yourself up with a bunch of stuff to eat.

[01:12:53]
I also think it's fun that if you hold it there too long, the game

[01:12:56]
will allow it to rot.

[01:12:58]
Yeah.

[01:12:59]
Agreed.

[01:12:59]
And also, like I ended up with a shit ton of alligator for some reason

[01:13:05]
that is totally not really good to.

[01:13:07]
To some grenade usage, maybe.

[01:13:10]
But if you eat a lot of the same thing back to back, it becomes less effective

[01:13:17]
in your story.

[01:13:18]
Oh, that's a great.

[01:13:19]
Yeah.

[01:13:19]
Yes.

[01:13:19]
Yes.

[01:13:19]
Yes.

[01:13:20]
I forgot about that, but that's that's absolutely true.

[01:13:22]
And it's such a picky eater.

[01:13:25]
Yeah, man.

[01:13:26]
Which is why I was so surprised to hear him.

[01:13:29]
Well, I guess not because I did just get done talking about the fact

[01:13:32]
that his stomach was actually grumbling loud enough to catch attention.

[01:13:36]
But he at that point, he thought a rat that you just freshly catch, like

[01:13:41]
underneath or inside the food storage place.

[01:13:44]
He just ate that right away and his little vocal response was not bad.

[01:13:52]
Got to love not bad.

[01:13:53]
Yeah.

[01:13:54]
Food is fuel.

[01:13:55]
It's an enthusiastic not bad too.

[01:13:57]
Like of all the particular little criticism he gives on these, like disgusting.

[01:14:04]
Yeah.

[01:14:04]
You know what I mean?

[01:14:05]
Like a rat was not bad.

[01:14:08]
Not bad.

[01:14:08]
Yeah.

[01:14:09]
I take it if you, you start out with the gator and he's like, mm, that was

[01:14:14]
tasty, but then after a while he's like, it's all right.

[01:14:18]
Or what can I say?

[01:14:20]
Yeah.

[01:14:21]
That man, I just love like the attention to detail in this game.

[01:14:26]
That's the thing that makes it real special to me.

[01:14:29]
It's worthwhile.

[01:14:30]
It's worth several playthroughs just to unlock all of all of that

[01:14:34]
stuff you might not have seen on one playthrough.

[01:14:36]
Oh yeah.

[01:14:37]
And this, this game does a good job too, because a lot of times you could play a

[01:14:40]
game where clearly they mapped out like the first five hours of the game and it

[01:14:44]
feels so like so fresh and so like, man, this is, I can't wait till this opens up.

[01:14:49]
And then you realize that's just the whole game.

[01:14:51]
This doesn't really do that.

[01:14:52]
Like as we keep going, we're actually going to talk about probably better stuff.

[01:14:56]
Oh yeah.

[01:14:56]
And what we're currently doing.

[01:14:58]
Bigger.

[01:14:59]
Oh yeah.

[01:15:00]
They include like more trappy.

[01:15:02]
Yeah.

[01:15:02]
Yeah.

[01:15:02]
Way more trappy.

[01:15:04]
Yeah.

[01:15:04]
And did you guys use the thermal goggles?

[01:15:06]
You can also get some, you could sneak and get some claymores.

[01:15:09]
Yeah.

[01:15:09]
Did anybody get caught by any traps or anything?

[01:15:11]
No, not by this point.

[01:15:13]
Warren, come on.

[01:15:14]
I'm just curious.

[01:15:16]
I, oh, Chris.

[01:15:18]
So Chris is like, wait a minute.

[01:15:20]
There's some stop, stop the clock, please.

[01:15:23]
What is it in the bullshia past?

[01:15:28]
The first.

[01:15:28]
So yeah, bullshia of a self.

[01:15:31]
One of the guards was chasing me and I ran through a tree and I realized I tripped

[01:15:36]
a tripwire and I did a quick roll and it looked cool because the guard got hit by

[01:15:41]
the trap.

[01:15:42]
Yes.

[01:15:43]
And it didn't fly in, but it was like, I totally did not intend it to happen

[01:15:47]
that way, but it turned out to be cool.

[01:15:49]
That's yours.

[01:15:51]
That's yours, dude.

[01:15:51]
Oh, yeah.

[01:15:53]
The traps I think are so cool.

[01:15:55]
Yes.

[01:15:56]
And they are pretty well hidden too.

[01:15:58]
If, if you know to look for them, you can find them, but.

[01:16:00]
I do think it's kind of bullshit that you can see them all with your thermal goggles.

[01:16:04]
Like it's convenient and it's nice, but come on.

[01:16:07]
Well, I would have thought it would have been cool if it like instead of the whole

[01:16:11]
thing being red, you know, thermal, if it had like just more like dusting of red,

[01:16:16]
because obviously someone's hands had touched it to like lay the trend.

[01:16:20]
So I get, I get the story reason why, but if it was not as like very obviously a

[01:16:25]
trap is here.

[01:16:26]
Yeah.

[01:16:27]
I mean, those are almost, those are pretty much white.

[01:16:30]
Yeah.

[01:16:30]
On the screen, right?

[01:16:31]
Yeah.

[01:16:32]
Bordering hot red to white.

[01:16:35]
Right.

[01:16:36]
And I don't think that makes sense, but if you can.

[01:16:38]
Chemically speaking, they're white hot.

[01:16:40]
Yeah.

[01:16:40]
Yeah.

[01:16:41]
Like you're saying, Warren, if you could just see a trace of them, maybe a

[01:16:44]
little bit of greener orange.

[01:16:46]
Yeah.

[01:16:46]
Extra footprints, like walking around it, maybe something like that.

[01:16:50]
Like that could have been.

[01:16:50]
Which they don't start to get into until Middler Solid 4, but.

[01:16:53]
Yeah.

[01:16:54]
I think a lot about what this game would be like if they remade it.

[01:16:58]
Right.

[01:16:59]
Yeah.

[01:16:59]
And I posted in our discord some video on YouTube I found out of some guy that

[01:17:04]
was like, here is Mel, your solid three in the Fox engine.

[01:17:08]
Uh, I don't know how real this is, but it looks so cool.

[01:17:12]
It looks incredible.

[01:17:12]
I want to play that game.

[01:17:14]
I think about like things like this, the traps, like what would that would be

[01:17:18]
like in a modern game and how they would navigate that kind of space.

[01:17:24]
And I really wish they made more games like this that were like pretty linear

[01:17:30]
in its narrative and like the actual map, the world, you know, not an open

[01:17:35]
world game, but a very dense game that offers you a variety.

[01:17:39]
And they only get other games that I can think of like this or like, like

[01:17:43]
Deus Ex Machina, I think is similar because the environments are small, but

[01:17:50]
they're linear and you can approach them in a malt stewed ways.

[01:17:55]
Sure.

[01:17:55]
Definitely.

[01:17:57]
Yeah.

[01:17:57]
It's a very rare breed, but there's a reason why we still talk about those games.

[01:18:02]
Hell yeah.

[01:18:02]
Because yeah, for sure.

[01:18:03]
Usually if you can do that, you do it very well.

[01:18:07]
And that's, that's what makes this game so special.

[01:18:10]
I love it.

[01:18:11]
No.

[01:18:12]
So we move past where past the traps.

[01:18:14]
Sorry for bothering you to worry about the traps and we happy to talk about the

[01:18:19]
traps.

[01:18:20]
So we now get to the crevice.

[01:18:23]
Yes.

[01:18:24]
We're getting, we're getting ready to do our thing.

[01:18:25]
We're going to sneak past.

[01:18:26]
We're on our way to the lab and we get stopped by our boy.

[01:18:32]
He's back.

[01:18:33]
Oh yeah.

[01:18:35]
Oh, that was a really good one too.

[01:18:37]
He's back baby.

[01:18:41]
I feel like everybody had to get in on that.

[01:18:43]
Yeah.

[01:18:43]
Oh yeah.

[01:18:43]
We all have to do it.

[01:18:44]
He's got some new action too.

[01:18:46]
No.

[01:18:47]
Right.

[01:18:48]
Oh yeah.

[01:18:49]
You mean with his hand gestures?

[01:18:50]
Well the single action army.

[01:18:52]
Yeah.

[01:18:52]
Oh yeah.

[01:18:52]
He gets, it's like he's, he's in the show cats.

[01:18:56]
Yeah.

[01:18:56]
At least for that moment.

[01:18:57]
He's channeling his inner Mr.

[01:18:59]
Mestofiles.

[01:19:00]
He's almost doing a sunset.

[01:19:01]
Salutation yoga pose.

[01:19:04]
Oh yeah.

[01:19:05]
Definitely.

[01:19:05]
This is such a wild part of the game too.

[01:19:09]
Because it's so different.

[01:19:12]
Like you're playing the stealth game, right?

[01:19:14]
And everything's pretty immersive.

[01:19:15]
And the only boss encounter we've had so far with the guards is like very similar

[01:19:19]
to the gameplay style of the rest of the game.

[01:19:22]
But this is like some sort of rail shooter thing.

[01:19:26]
This is almost just like the, the Ocelot battle and the first installment of the

[01:19:31]
series.

[01:19:32]
Well, okay.

[01:19:33]
First PlayStation installment of the series.

[01:19:35]
Yeah.

[01:19:35]
I didn't even think about that.

[01:19:36]
Wow.

[01:19:37]
Yeah.

[01:19:37]
Wow.

[01:19:39]
Yeah.

[01:19:39]
Interesting.

[01:19:39]
Wow.

[01:19:40]
Indeed.

[01:19:40]
Because you never like.

[01:19:41]
Profound.

[01:19:42]
You're always like across each other.

[01:19:47]
Right.

[01:19:47]
Yes.

[01:19:48]
Yeah.

[01:19:48]
You can never be just like right next to each other.

[01:19:50]
You have to compromise on your visuals.

[01:19:53]
You can't always see where you're trying to aim.

[01:19:57]
That's true.

[01:19:58]
I threw in that I absolutely love the Western, like literal Western influence.

[01:20:05]
I just love.

[01:20:06]
Man.

[01:20:07]
Oh man.

[01:20:07]
I just, he's got spurs.

[01:20:09]
It feels like like you can hear him walk in and it's got like that sweet little like,

[01:20:14]
like just like real reverby guitar for no reason.

[01:20:17]
Oh yeah.

[01:20:18]
That's the best.

[01:20:19]
It's it's so good.

[01:20:21]
And yeah, it's another style boss fight that's going to be very special compared to

[01:20:26]
all the other boss fights.

[01:20:27]
You're not going to do the same type of fight twice really in this game.

[01:20:32]
Yeah.

[01:20:32]
You still shoot an enemy, but they always force you to use something else in your

[01:20:37]
toolbox.

[01:20:37]
This particular thing just happens to be making sure you know, you're very

[01:20:41]
comfortable with, you know, using a gun in first person.

[01:20:45]
Right.

[01:20:46]
You don't have to do it that way, but that's where the game is sort of guiding

[01:20:49]
you.

[01:20:49]
Yeah, absolutely.

[01:20:50]
Because you're going to need it in a future fight.

[01:20:52]
Right.

[01:20:53]
Basically what they're doing.

[01:20:54]
And it's so good.

[01:20:55]
So how did we beat us a lot?

[01:20:58]
I'm kind of interested.

[01:20:59]
His mind's pretty boring.

[01:21:00]
So mine's boring too.

[01:21:02]
I mean, I just shoot out the hornet and SNES and every tries to hide.

[01:21:08]
And then I take him out with the trink with carefully placed headshots to get the

[01:21:13]
maximum amount of stamina knocked out of him.

[01:21:15]
Nice.

[01:21:16]
Do you guys fuck him up while he's reloading?

[01:21:18]
Absolutely.

[01:21:19]
Always.

[01:21:20]
Oh yeah.

[01:21:20]
Dirty, dirty, dirty.

[01:21:22]
What?

[01:21:23]
All the way to the right.

[01:21:24]
And then you can see past the tree.

[01:21:26]
You can see him back there.

[01:21:27]
Oh, even when he's, I don't know about you.

[01:21:29]
I played on normal, even on normal, he'll reload out in the open, which makes

[01:21:33]
him a total dipshit, but I take advantage of it every time.

[01:21:37]
And I love the growth where now he's got two guns, 12 shots.

[01:21:42]
Like, and I just, I just love like they kind of like, they're just dick measuring.

[01:21:46]
I see you've got yourself a single action army.

[01:21:49]
That's right.

[01:21:51]
There'll be no accidents this time.

[01:21:54]
You call that an accident?

[01:21:56]
Well, it wouldn't have happened if you hadn't been showing off.

[01:22:00]
What did you say?

[01:22:01]
It's a nice gun.

[01:22:02]
I'll give you that.

[01:22:03]
But the engraving gives you no tactical advantage whatsoever.

[01:22:08]
Unless you were planning to auction it off as a collector's item.

[01:22:13]
You can't do this shit.

[01:22:14]
Well, what if I could?

[01:22:15]
Yeah, well, you still can't, but I just doubled it.

[01:22:17]
Like it's, and it just keeps going.

[01:22:19]
It's so good.

[01:22:20]
They have this encounter while Eva's around too.

[01:22:22]
It just, I'm sorry to always bring this up, but every time they're having their,

[01:22:26]
their pissing contest while Eva's around, I love how she's just like, whatever.

[01:22:31]
I'm a part of this too.

[01:22:33]
Both the all are about to get fucked up right now.

[01:22:35]
Just watch.

[01:22:36]
Yeah.

[01:22:36]
Divide by zero.

[01:22:37]
We can dick measure all day.

[01:22:38]
I don't need one.

[01:22:39]
I got this.

[01:22:41]
I know that's not relevant here, but I just had to throw that in there.

[01:22:44]
Well, yeah, I mean, he also says some kooky stuff.

[01:22:49]
He does.

[01:22:50]
Yes.

[01:22:50]
Oh, I love the reload, the action.

[01:22:54]
Oh, God, you know, but we all know it's coming.

[01:22:57]
Yeah.

[01:22:57]
We all know it's coming.

[01:22:58]
We have to talk about, oh, it's so thrilling than a clip.

[01:23:01]
Like he always, it's always more thrilling.

[01:23:04]
We all know somebody's coming.

[01:23:06]
It's even.

[01:23:07]
It's either Snake or Oslo.

[01:23:08]
What a thrill.

[01:23:10]
Yeah.

[01:23:12]
But yeah, it's great.

[01:23:13]
It's a great little boss fight.

[01:23:14]
It's super fun.

[01:23:15]
And yeah, it's cowboy style.

[01:23:16]
I love it.

[01:23:17]
I love it.

[01:23:18]
It's so, it's so cheesy, but man, it's still a boss fight and it's still good.

[01:23:23]
It's basically it like harkens back to Olga from the song.

[01:23:27]
Yes, yes, yes, yes.

[01:23:28]
Even more so.

[01:23:29]
Yeah.

[01:23:29]
It feels like an Olga fight and it's early.

[01:23:31]
So that kind of makes sense the way they do it.

[01:23:34]
But it's so satisfying though.

[01:23:36]
Yeah.

[01:23:36]
Did you guys hide enough to wear the boss like his like crony?

[01:23:40]
We're like, oh, get a boss and they like tried to shoot your like throw stuff out

[01:23:44]
or anything like that because they can't.

[01:23:45]
Oh, yeah.

[01:23:46]
If you hide, they can interact.

[01:23:47]
Don't do that.

[01:23:48]
They'll call you out.

[01:23:49]
He's over here.

[01:23:50]
Like you're right.

[01:23:51]
Or if you do catch him while he's reloading, you you traitor.

[01:23:56]
Or what do they say?

[01:23:57]
You cheater or something like that.

[01:23:59]
I love to when they'll like fight back and Oslo.

[01:24:01]
I'll like, hey, he's mine.

[01:24:03]
Yeah, he's mine.

[01:24:04]
Like, don't get it.

[01:24:04]
Like, I'm like, OK, I feel you Oslo.

[01:24:06]
Like I'm with him.

[01:24:07]
I wasn't able to trigger any of that through the last couple of play throughs I've

[01:24:11]
done for the show, but back when I was like a teenager, I got that all the time,

[01:24:15]
I guess, because I was trying to be a little a filthy cheater.

[01:24:19]
Yeah.

[01:24:19]
You're a Nancy boy.

[01:24:20]
You were a Nancy boy.

[01:24:21]
It's okay.

[01:24:22]
Yeah.

[01:24:23]
Yeah.

[01:24:23]
You hide in a corner until you win.

[01:24:26]
That's what a snake does, I guess.

[01:24:28]
Yeah.

[01:24:29]
And we can't kill them because if you kill them, we all know it's a time paradox.

[01:24:31]
So we win the boss fight and a swarm of hornets are taking over the entire

[01:24:41]
crevice and we are introduced to our next Mega Man style boss.

[01:24:48]
Wait, can we just before we go here, can we can we talk about the fact that for

[01:24:52]
some reason, even though he just began, I need to know the timeline too, because

[01:24:58]
I'm a little iffy on the timeline, but let's say within the last 12 hours, I

[01:25:02]
think it's fair to say he's acquired two new revolvers that have more tactical

[01:25:07]
advantage than a collector's item value.

[01:25:11]
And he somehow knows to swing them all around and do his nifty little hand tricks.

[01:25:17]
And to kill the hornets, to keep them from coming to him.

[01:25:20]
How did he gain this skill in a matter of to be generous 12 hours?

[01:25:24]
Well, I think he was always a good shot.

[01:25:27]
Right.

[01:25:28]
Among his peers, he was always a good shot with just pistols.

[01:25:31]
And then Snake is like, Oh, you want to be a boss, you know, this is like, yeah,

[01:25:37]
you're not, he's not just a soldier.

[01:25:38]
He's trying to become like a boss type character where he has some significance.

[01:25:43]
And he just doesn't have the skill for that because even Snake, who's the green

[01:25:48]
guy here in the situation can kick Ocelot's ass and make fun of him because

[01:25:53]
Ocelot's really just a young kid, you know, he would be

[01:25:57]
in his twenties right now.

[01:25:59]
Yeah, I still also think that like at least like first couple gameplay experiences.

[01:26:05]
I just honestly thought like Ocelot is that guy that we already established.

[01:26:09]
You can get like a Chinese imitation of a Mauser pistol and this crazy new weapon.

[01:26:14]
So like whatever armor storage they have, they have whatever they need in their

[01:26:18]
armory and he's that guy that would just like stand in front of a mirror with every

[01:26:23]
gun and be like, this one was the coolest.

[01:26:25]
Get a little something like he's that guy.

[01:26:27]
Just practicing just everything.

[01:26:29]
I just always thought he was that guy and especially handguns because it's a lot

[01:26:33]
easier, not that you're, if you're good with one handgun, you're good with every one.

[01:26:37]
But it's one thing to be like a rifleman or a sniper, like where it's, you can sort

[01:26:41]
of like take care of yourself and get good at handguns.

[01:26:43]
Like I just took it as he was just, he was that guy that just, he's had his hands

[01:26:47]
on every single gun, picked his favorite one, got made to look a fool, grabbed another one

[01:26:52]
and was like, shit, I'm still an idiot.

[01:26:54]
And then just was like, you know what?

[01:26:55]
Now I'm just, I'm going for broke.

[01:26:57]
I'm a full, you know, dirty Harry.

[01:26:59]
They must have some like armory of weapons because it's the same as like where

[01:27:02]
a snake got that gun that he drooled over.

[01:27:05]
It's exactly the same one from this catch of weapons we have in our armory.

[01:27:10]
So he's probably got this.

[01:27:11]
And I guess it would be pretty, you know, pretty sizable.

[01:27:14]
And they say that it's vast, vast countries.

[01:27:16]
Where are they getting all these American weapons at in Russia?

[01:27:19]
That's a good question.

[01:27:21]
I don't know the boss.

[01:27:22]
D-virtuous mission.

[01:27:24]
It's where I think they got them.

[01:27:26]
One more thing before we move on.

[01:27:28]
Yeah, yeah.

[01:27:28]
I just want to acknowledge that I think it's great that we have this, uh, this

[01:27:33]
trickle down system of the boss, just fucking shit up for snake and snake then

[01:27:39]
turning and fucking shit up for Osalat.

[01:27:43]
Both of them having this you ain't shit mentality and snake and Osalat

[01:27:48]
respectively, or just like, oh.

[01:27:50]
Yeah.

[01:27:51]
Yeah.

[01:27:52]
It does.

[01:27:52]
It shows snakes confidence in the stuff he does know.

[01:27:56]
And like, it does make me start to be like, okay, this guy is, you know,

[01:28:01]
if this guy is a badass, it's just I'm getting better at the game.

[01:28:03]
This panty ways does know what he's doing.

[01:28:06]
Exactly.

[01:28:06]
And I never smoke the cigar unless there's a leech because I have respect and decorum.

[01:28:13]
That's fair.

[01:28:15]
So all right.

[01:28:16]
Hornets taken over.

[01:28:18]
Everybody is going to town.

[01:28:21]
Osalat looks cool as shit.

[01:28:22]
I do think it sounds awesome.

[01:28:23]
I love the like the noise it makes and hearing them all get hit.

[01:28:27]
Like he's just, and you just see them like just flittered the floor.

[01:28:31]
It's really cool the way this scene is done.

[01:28:34]
It's super cinematic.

[01:28:35]
And of course, snake doesn't have three handguns to spin around and kill

[01:28:40]
anything, nor does he have bug spray.

[01:28:42]
So you jump into the crevice down into the caves because it's the only way

[01:28:48]
you're going to get away from these.

[01:28:49]
And I believe this is us.

[01:28:51]
Let's say like he's here.

[01:28:54]
So like he got caught messing around like trying to mess with snake.

[01:28:57]
I think Osalat says like, oh, he found us.

[01:28:59]
So it's like one of the, now he knows like the boss is on the like pain.

[01:29:03]
Yeah.

[01:29:04]
Yeah.

[01:29:04]
Like so when the pain comes in, he says it.

[01:29:06]
So it's just like, well, maybe Osalat's kind of doing his own thing.

[01:29:10]
Yeah.

[01:29:10]
Cause as far as Osalat's concerned, snake is mine.

[01:29:13]
Right.

[01:29:14]
It's interesting where it's just like, so how many layers are there to

[01:29:18]
like, I understand that Osalat wants to kill you, I guess, but he's had so

[01:29:22]
many times to do it.

[01:29:23]
And yeah, he had that gun jam issue where he would have killed you right there.

[01:29:28]
I'm not sure he wants to kill him.

[01:29:30]
I think he's like toying with you now.

[01:29:31]
Yeah.

[01:29:31]
I think so too.

[01:29:32]
And I know it takes a while to transform into that because by the end

[01:29:36]
you're, you're certain that that's not Osalat's motive.

[01:29:39]
But I think, and my goal through playing this game this time for the show is

[01:29:44]
to find out where that line is.

[01:29:46]
When does he turn from being an enemy and to just kind of being an

[01:29:51]
awe of this guy and kind of wanting to be around him?

[01:29:55]
I'm going to look for that now as we go.

[01:29:56]
I always felt like he was anti-vulgan on the virtuous mission because

[01:30:02]
of the nuclear missile, where he's like, that's our comrades.

[01:30:05]
So I understand that he's an enemy of an enemy sort of a situation, but other

[01:30:10]
than knowing he's in future games because of just playing previous ones, I was,

[01:30:15]
yeah, I'm that's something I'm going to look for now, though, where, where

[01:30:18]
that is because I really feel like it's there and I either I just don't pay

[01:30:22]
attention.

[01:30:22]
I think it's there though.

[01:30:23]
I think at some point during this game, it changes from you're my enemy or you

[01:30:30]
are my opposition to, you know, I don't really care what your role is.

[01:30:34]
I have respect for you.

[01:30:36]
Right.

[01:30:38]
Yeah.

[01:30:38]
It's like real respects, real, you know, yeah.

[01:30:41]
That's how it feels.

[01:30:42]
So all right.

[01:30:43]
So anyway, cave time.

[01:30:44]
We land in the caves.

[01:30:46]
Okay.

[01:30:48]
Who likes these caves?

[01:30:49]
I love these caves, man.

[01:30:51]
Do you?

[01:30:51]
Okay.

[01:30:52]
I do.

[01:30:53]
I do.

[01:30:53]
I can't say that I always did, but I've grown an appreciation for them.

[01:30:57]
The caves are okay.

[01:30:59]
It's really just the water level.

[01:31:01]
Okay.

[01:31:02]
They're bigger than I remember.

[01:31:03]
It's the water temple.

[01:31:05]
Yeah.

[01:31:05]
Water temple from Zelda.

[01:31:06]
Yeah.

[01:31:07]
This is it is.

[01:31:08]
It's bigger than I remember though.

[01:31:09]
I for some reason, I thought it was like three rooms.

[01:31:12]
There's a lot of space because when I first played, I always thought it was a lot

[01:31:16]
bigger and the more I've played it, the more it's kind of been, okay, well, here's

[01:31:21]
this section, here's this section, here's this section.

[01:31:23]
And I know everything that I mean to check off along the way.

[01:31:27]
Right.

[01:31:28]
Yeah.

[01:31:28]
So you pick up your animals, camo, since we all trank them and you have a couple

[01:31:33]
options.

[01:31:34]
I know like the, I guess like the, the famous Easter eggy one is you can just

[01:31:39]
hang out and snakes eyes will adjust.

[01:31:41]
In gameplay, which is really cool.

[01:31:43]
I've never waited that long.

[01:31:45]
It takes too long.

[01:31:45]
It takes a very long time, but it's five minutes.

[01:31:49]
It's too long.

[01:31:50]
I just however.

[01:31:52]
Instant gratification.

[01:31:54]
I want it now.

[01:31:54]
I do start to notice it as I keep like when you start going through though, and

[01:31:58]
you start to see more of it naturally.

[01:31:59]
That's yeah, I do like that.

[01:32:01]
The five minutes.

[01:32:02]
Usually what I rely on while you're in menus too.

[01:32:06]
So no shit.

[01:32:06]
Yeah.

[01:32:07]
Oh, I didn't know that.

[01:32:08]
I thought it was like just, just in gameplay.

[01:32:10]
It's so it's kind of a natural pause point of like, Oh, well, I gotta take this time.

[01:32:15]
I should heal up.

[01:32:16]
I should eat some food.

[01:32:17]
I should change up my stuff.

[01:32:19]
Pick up that new camo.

[01:32:21]
So question.

[01:32:23]
If you decide to save the game and quit playing for a while.

[01:32:28]
Yeah.

[01:32:28]
If you fire it back up, assuming it's at least five minutes later, will snakes

[01:32:33]
eyes be adjusted?

[01:32:34]
I think so.

[01:32:36]
I would argue no, because doesn't paramedic say when you save your sleeping.

[01:32:42]
So when you open your eyes, that's correct.

[01:32:47]
You are correct for it.

[01:32:48]
You have to have the game open and you have to be in the caves for five minutes.

[01:32:52]
Log five minutes in the caves.

[01:32:54]
That makes sense.

[01:32:55]
Yeah.

[01:32:55]
Paramedic tells us, she tells us everything.

[01:32:57]
Gotta love that Fox unit.

[01:33:00]
So yeah.

[01:33:00]
So did anybody have anything special?

[01:33:02]
We all know you can get like the night vision goggles in here.

[01:33:05]
I usually always get them just because it's fun, but I don't ever really get

[01:33:08]
a shot gun in here too.

[01:33:10]
Yeah.

[01:33:10]
Yes.

[01:33:11]
You get the M 37.

[01:33:13]
And do you even, does anybody use a shotgun in these games?

[01:33:15]
So for, for one of my files?

[01:33:17]
Yes.

[01:33:17]
Because it is very effective against the pain's natural armor that he calls to

[01:33:23]
him.

[01:33:23]
Yeah.

[01:33:23]
Oh yeah.

[01:33:24]
If you can run up on him and gun that armor down, it goes out in like one shot.

[01:33:31]
And then you can, wow.

[01:33:32]
Then you can do whatever you want.

[01:33:33]
Over weapon.

[01:33:34]
Yeah.

[01:33:35]
Oh, look at me.

[01:33:36]
Yeah.

[01:33:36]
Yeah.

[01:33:37]
So that's, this is why I always pick them up because I can usually find a use for

[01:33:42]
them other than I'm going to kill you with this.

[01:33:45]
Sure.

[01:33:46]
Yeah.

[01:33:46]
Like with the, with the a K I just like to blow up barrels.

[01:33:50]
That's just fun for me.

[01:33:51]
Oh yeah.

[01:33:52]
Or if I need to kill a crock, AK 47 is the quickest way.

[01:33:57]
I don't like to hear him suffer you guys.

[01:34:01]
I want to put them out of their misery real quick.

[01:34:04]
Crocs feel pain too.

[01:34:05]
It's cool.

[01:34:05]
It's cool.

[01:34:06]
But yeah, that's, that's my main use for the M 37 is just breaking down the

[01:34:10]
pain's barrier.

[01:34:12]
Sure.

[01:34:12]
Yeah.

[01:34:13]
And I love, I love the torch.

[01:34:14]
I use the torch at this time.

[01:34:16]
Yes.

[01:34:16]
It really is super helpful.

[01:34:18]
I didn't realize how effective it was.

[01:34:21]
I was surprised though.

[01:34:22]
I really was expecting because this game would have done it.

[01:34:25]
You walk under a waterfall, your torch stays lit.

[01:34:28]
I didn't realize that.

[01:34:29]
I was waiting for it to be like, Oh, well, obviously I have to put my torture

[01:34:32]
way or it's going to go out anyway.

[01:34:34]
So because it goes out when you're in a body of water.

[01:34:38]
Yeah.

[01:34:38]
When you swim or something like that, but if you run into one of the, like the

[01:34:41]
two random waterfalls you can find, it won't go out, which I, it's okay that it

[01:34:46]
doesn't, I just would have, I was kind of like, Oh, I'll, I'll just do this

[01:34:49]
real quick so I can talk about it.

[01:34:50]
And then it didn't happen.

[01:34:52]
Yeah.

[01:34:52]
So I was like, Oh, but, um, but yeah, so it's just a, not really a maze.

[01:34:57]
Couple of, uh, you got to find the right way to get over top of another area to

[01:35:01]
move around.

[01:35:02]
I'm going to just say swimming sucks though.

[01:35:05]
Swimming is not very fun.

[01:35:06]
And yeah, all I do is just spam, you know, just to get out of there.

[01:35:11]
There's no way to survive.

[01:35:12]
The whole point of swimming is to get over it.

[01:35:16]
You know, like, yeah, basically.

[01:35:19]
Ooh, I like it.

[01:35:20]
Yeah.

[01:35:21]
But yeah, it's not fun.

[01:35:22]
Yes.

[01:35:23]
Oh, switch it up sometimes.

[01:35:26]
You got to keep it fresh.

[01:35:27]
You know, since we already brought it up.

[01:35:30]
But yeah, uh, and I do know that like, so you can grab the Russian glow caps.

[01:35:34]
If you pick them up, you need battery.

[01:35:36]
You can use those.

[01:35:36]
Them they recharge your batteries.

[01:35:38]
It's just super important.

[01:35:39]
Zero will chime in.

[01:35:40]
Yeah.

[01:35:41]
They're, they're super helpful.

[01:35:42]
You guys have to be taking at least two, if not three, Kenyan mangrove

[01:35:47]
crabs out of here.

[01:35:49]
By the time you leave the cave, are you not taking at least one or two of these

[01:35:53]
guys?

[01:35:53]
Yeah.

[01:35:54]
I took at least.

[01:35:55]
Okay.

[01:35:55]
As you see him, you walk right by him.

[01:35:57]
Yeah.

[01:35:57]
He walked right by him.

[01:35:58]
There's so many.

[01:35:59]
It's like, why wouldn't you think he will ever eat?

[01:36:02]
I want some more.

[01:36:03]
Yeah, exactly.

[01:36:04]
That's one a few times you get that message.

[01:36:07]
That's awesome.

[01:36:08]
Other than that, I just want to say every time I picked up the torch, I was real

[01:36:13]
quick to put it out again because I've been trained by Zelda games that if you

[01:36:17]
go out, right?

[01:36:18]
Yes, you don't put it out right away.

[01:36:20]
I thought so too.

[01:36:21]
I was like, I couldn't believe that it just like, it is going to be a perfect

[01:36:24]
torch until you don't want it to be a torch anymore.

[01:36:27]
Yeah, I couldn't believe it.

[01:36:28]
Cause that would be such a kujima thing to do, right?

[01:36:33]
Yeah.

[01:36:33]
Give you a torch and then tell you, oh, but you only got 30 seconds of use here.

[01:36:39]
Or at least there's something else you have to find a new one or dry it off.

[01:36:43]
Like I figured there would have been something in there.

[01:36:45]
Right.

[01:36:45]
But the caves are annoying enough.

[01:36:47]
So I'm happy they didn't, they didn't go too wild with it.

[01:36:50]
Yes.

[01:36:50]
If you say so, you just got to know how to navigate them for shit.

[01:36:54]
I didn't, I'm trying not to use the guides that I have.

[01:36:57]
I'm trying to be as raw as I can.

[01:36:58]
And then on the second playthrough, then I'm like, oh yeah, here we go.

[01:37:01]
Let's open this the bad boy up.

[01:37:02]
I'll find a thing here, find a thing there.

[01:37:04]
But you can find every, every playthrough.

[01:37:07]
Well, every Metal Gear experience, like I watched, I would watch my

[01:37:12]
brother chase play through it first.

[01:37:13]
I'd try it myself with Chase's help.

[01:37:15]
And then I'd explore more and be like, oh no, I can, I can fucking do this.

[01:37:19]
No, we do.

[01:37:21]
So we get through and we get to a body of water with a big old rock in the middle

[01:37:25]
with a couple of tiny little rocks off to the side.

[01:37:28]
And we meet the pain.

[01:37:30]
I am the pain.

[01:37:32]
The Mega Man villain.

[01:37:33]
The pain.

[01:37:35]
Wait, wait.

[01:37:35]
Pain.

[01:37:36]
Oh, that's so good.

[01:37:38]
Oh, yeah.

[01:37:38]
Let's do it again.

[01:37:39]
He's the pain.

[01:37:44]
He's just so, he just like Mighty Morphin Power Ranger moves and does like poses.

[01:37:49]
Like he's just, man, who is this guy karate moves are, are it exhausts me to

[01:37:55]
watch him moves.

[01:37:57]
And as the boss fight happens, he'll do like his little like orchestral dance.

[01:38:02]
I don't like do this.

[01:38:03]
I guess he's like conducting the bees.

[01:38:04]
It's cute.

[01:38:05]
Cause he's like a chubby little bald dude.

[01:38:08]
Yeah.

[01:38:09]
He's like, uh, what is the fantastic four character?

[01:38:13]
The thing.

[01:38:14]
The thing.

[01:38:14]
Oh yeah.

[01:38:15]
He's totally.

[01:38:16]
He's got that.

[01:38:17]
I mean, he's not made a rock.

[01:38:18]
He's just got terrible complexion.

[01:38:20]
Yeah.

[01:38:20]
Well, he may as well be same kind of idea.

[01:38:22]
He's got armor too.

[01:38:24]
Right.

[01:38:25]
The thing he's got B armor.

[01:38:27]
On top of his regular ass armor, his nasty skin.

[01:38:32]
On top of nasty skin armor.

[01:38:34]
You're right.

[01:38:34]
This guy is like just fine.

[01:38:37]
He's going to be okay.

[01:38:38]
He's so, so how did this boss fight go for everybody?

[01:38:41]
Was it kind of a pain in the ass?

[01:38:43]
Did you kind of like figure out the loop?

[01:38:45]
This guy is a cheese lord.

[01:38:47]
Right.

[01:38:47]
He is kind of, by the time you get like what, 50% through his health, he has like

[01:38:52]
the bullet bees and you get that gross thing where he like opens up and spits them

[01:38:56]
out of his mouth.

[01:38:57]
Um, yeah, it looks cool as shit with like the red, like they're all flying around.

[01:39:01]
So you know exactly where they are, but you can just swim to kind of get away from

[01:39:05]
them, but it is, did anybody get hit by a bullet bee?

[01:39:08]
Yeah.

[01:39:09]
They still fucked with my day a little bit.

[01:39:10]
Yeah.

[01:39:11]
It's hard to hit him with the trink.

[01:39:14]
You know, yeah.

[01:39:14]
Definitely.

[01:39:15]
Yeah.

[01:39:16]
Are you talking about the pants?

[01:39:17]
You really tried to hit the bullies with the track.

[01:39:18]
Yeah.

[01:39:19]
You can try to shoot them down.

[01:39:21]
I know that you get them.

[01:39:23]
Can you like acquire them?

[01:39:24]
Uh, no, or do they just like disappear?

[01:39:27]
Cause you drank.

[01:39:28]
Yeah.

[01:39:28]
The only thing I managed to shoot down are the grenades that he would send over.

[01:39:34]
And those, those ones moved slow ish.

[01:39:36]
Yes.

[01:39:37]
It's great to use the shotgun on those.

[01:39:40]
Yeah.

[01:39:40]
Well, anything you get the spray.

[01:39:42]
Right.

[01:39:42]
Yeah.

[01:39:43]
Super easy.

[01:39:44]
Yeah.

[01:39:44]
Anything you related.

[01:39:45]
I was using shotgun on.

[01:39:47]
I use smoke grenades on his armor.

[01:39:49]
And then I would like just go to town with the trink gun.

[01:39:52]
Same here.

[01:39:53]
Yep.

[01:39:54]
I used a lot of smoke grenades myself.

[01:39:56]
I would swim.

[01:39:57]
I would hide until he couldn't find me and aware.

[01:40:00]
And I would throw myself, throw myself a little smoke grenade and it just

[01:40:03]
shoot him as many times I can until he started doing his little dancing.

[01:40:06]
But yeah, he is, he's very glass Joe.

[01:40:10]
He's super cheese Lord.

[01:40:11]
He is.

[01:40:11]
He is the most basic of like, look, we got some weirdo.

[01:40:15]
Later in this game that you're going to fight and just, you know, be prepared for this.

[01:40:20]
This is the least of the weird, believe it or not.

[01:40:24]
For sure.

[01:40:24]
Did either of you guys find duplicates of him?

[01:40:27]
Did you, I guess, trigger that in your game?

[01:40:31]
Yeah, he can duplicate himself.

[01:40:32]
I didn't play through one, not play through two.

[01:40:35]
OK.

[01:40:36]
I guess I would just be quicker on the draw to stop him.

[01:40:40]
But he definitely has like a, a mime mechanic, which is.

[01:40:43]
Right.

[01:40:44]
Really annoying.

[01:40:45]
And sometimes he sends out two duplicates and you have to try and figure

[01:40:49]
out which one is the real him.

[01:40:51]
So that's when I would usually just bring out the AK and just like spray.

[01:40:56]
It works.

[01:40:57]
I love how like each boss in the game has an arena and yes, phases.

[01:41:04]
It's very old video gamey.

[01:41:07]
Right.

[01:41:07]
Yeah, it's a board.

[01:41:08]
Yeah.

[01:41:09]
It's again, I hate to keep drawing this comparison or do I?

[01:41:13]
But it's kind of like Zelda.

[01:41:15]
It's kind of like Zelda bosses.

[01:41:17]
Once you figure out their pattern, the puzzle, because even, even the pain, once

[01:41:22]
you get halfway through his life, like you said, Warren, you'll trigger a little

[01:41:25]
cutscene and then you have to figure out a new pattern for him, just like in Zelda.

[01:41:29]
Yeah, I treat this like 3D Mega Man.

[01:41:31]
Like you get to his little, you open the little door, you get in, you're in his

[01:41:34]
little arena and you basically got to figure out to use what you have to stop

[01:41:39]
him from doing the things he does.

[01:41:40]
Right.

[01:41:41]
And he also looks like a man.

[01:41:43]
Yeah.

[01:41:43]
Like a Maverick.

[01:41:44]
He really does.

[01:41:45]
Like there, I don't know how there wasn't a bee man already.

[01:41:48]
If I am speaking out of turn, I think they don't think there would be.

[01:41:52]
There's wood man.

[01:41:54]
That's there is wood man.

[01:41:54]
There's wood man to.

[01:41:56]
Yeah.

[01:41:56]
Day man.

[01:41:58]
Oh, fight.

[01:42:00]
They're a man.

[01:42:04]
Champion of the sun.

[01:42:07]
Love it.

[01:42:08]
Well, at least we know we're always sunny.

[01:42:11]
Friendship for everyone.

[01:42:14]
Yes.

[01:42:15]
Beautiful.

[01:42:16]
I'm glad to hear we're all fans.

[01:42:17]
I thought I was just the only one because I live so close to Philadelphia.

[01:42:21]
No man, it's got a pretty wide reach, I think.

[01:42:23]
Yeah, it's awesome.

[01:42:24]
It's a great show.

[01:42:26]
All right.

[01:42:26]
So we fuck up the pain over them already.

[01:42:29]
We love him up.

[01:42:31]
I do love like how they do.

[01:42:33]
I guess he's the first one you hear it where it's like they echo their name.

[01:42:37]
Like when they die, it's like pain, pain, pain, pain.

[01:42:39]
It just keeps going.

[01:42:40]
I'm like, it's so good.

[01:42:44]
It's going to happen every time we kill the boss.

[01:42:46]
And it's it's just such a it's just style.

[01:42:49]
It's just like an added little flavor that you don't need.

[01:42:52]
But it just, I don't know, it makes it so much more rewarding.

[01:42:54]
It is fun when you win.

[01:42:56]
It's just like, fuck, yeah, fuck that guy.

[01:42:57]
This tape will self destruct.

[01:43:00]
Basically, it's just flair.

[01:43:01]
It's sizzle.

[01:43:01]
It's all sizzle.

[01:43:02]
Yeah.

[01:43:04]
It's like some young carpenter type stuff or.

[01:43:08]
It feels like something from an 80s beef like action movie.

[01:43:14]
Yep.

[01:43:15]
And it is.

[01:43:15]
I mean, that's basically what we're playing.

[01:43:17]
Right.

[01:43:18]
Seventies, though.

[01:43:20]
Yeah.

[01:43:21]
Sixties.

[01:43:22]
Sixties.

[01:43:23]
That's right.

[01:43:23]
Oh, shoot.

[01:43:24]
Or even worse.

[01:43:25]
Even less, even less budgets.

[01:43:27]
Oh, yeah.

[01:43:28]
So you guys all trank them as far as getting rid of them.

[01:43:32]
Did you solve a little puzzle on how to get his little thing?

[01:43:35]
You had to find the right run up so you could jump over.

[01:43:38]
Yeah.

[01:43:38]
Jump mechanic isn't great.

[01:43:40]
It's like a real.

[01:43:41]
You just.

[01:43:42]
Yeah.

[01:43:42]
You do like a Dark Souls thing where you run, run, run, hit the roll button and you

[01:43:45]
hopefully have enough forward momentum to just like launch yourself.

[01:43:49]
And if you do it right, it's pretty like cinematic looking, but.

[01:43:53]
Oh yeah.

[01:43:54]
You know, I've never done this.

[01:43:56]
And fortunately, where I stopped at this little chunk for the recording is right

[01:44:03]
after beating him.

[01:44:04]
So now I know to do that.

[01:44:06]
Nice.

[01:44:06]
Good.

[01:44:07]
Yeah.

[01:44:07]
So you get your stuff and we, uh, you head right out on the next area.

[01:44:12]
We have like one or two more paths to go up.

[01:44:15]
You can find like a little weapons case, uh, but you have to make sure there are

[01:44:19]
some.

[01:44:20]
Deals, mines, deal.

[01:44:22]
There's mines there.

[01:44:24]
So you have to carry this on.

[01:44:27]
So.

[01:44:27]
That one's for you, Sam.

[01:44:30]
And we get out into the open water and we see some levitating things, but

[01:44:36]
unfortunately that is where our episode will end as far as story.

[01:44:41]
Yeah.

[01:44:42]
We will have to find out what's on those levitating platforms.

[01:44:47]
Yes.

[01:44:47]
Next time.

[01:44:48]
I hope it's puppies.

[01:44:52]
So yeah.

[01:44:53]
Actually, no, I don't considering how things go.

[01:44:55]
Right.

[01:44:55]
Yeah.

[01:44:55]
You don't want to.

[01:44:56]
Oh my God.

[01:44:57]
Sorry.

[01:44:59]
That was dark.

[01:45:01]
So, so yeah, that wraps up another episode of middlegirm mondays revengeance.

[01:45:06]
Uh, as far as like some fun stuff, we'll chat out before we, uh, before we let

[01:45:09]
a rip, but wherever you guys listen to us, please give us a like and a subscribe.

[01:45:13]
It would be awesome.

[01:45:14]
Whether you're an Apple person or a Stitcher, but if you can rate and

[01:45:18]
review us, that would be incredible.

[01:45:19]
It goes a very long way as far as algorithms go.

[01:45:22]
If you want to talk to past and present hosts, you can find their socials on

[01:45:25]
middlegirm mondays.com and go to Instagram and Facebook at middlegirm

[01:45:29]
Mondays, get us on the Twitter at middlegirm monday.

[01:45:32]
I'm going to love the character limit and get sweet ass merch at bit.ly slash

[01:45:37]
MGM store.

[01:45:38]
Personally, I like the pillow that says it's just a box.

[01:45:42]
There's a pillow there now.

[01:45:43]
Shit.

[01:45:43]
Yeah, it's dope.

[01:45:44]
And I'm going to shout out the patrons again, the Patreon itself, uh, for as

[01:45:50]
low as a buck and get part of our discord.

[01:45:52]
We do other podcasts, we do extra content that we give out to everybody.

[01:45:56]
And I don't want to speak for anybody here, but I do think like the discord is

[01:46:00]
a great way to talk to past and previous hosts.

[01:46:02]
If you want to just get our feelings on stuff, we're definitely talking all kinds

[01:46:05]
of stuff.

[01:46:06]
We're doing Ghost of Tsushima right now.

[01:46:07]
I love that some of our patrons are watching Samurai Cinema.

[01:46:11]
Thank God they are.

[01:46:11]
Cause that is a missed genre.

[01:46:14]
Oh yeah.

[01:46:15]
It needs to be watched more.

[01:46:17]
So how do we feel guys about our little spot?

[01:46:22]
How do we like our little story bit?

[01:46:23]
Feel good about it?

[01:46:25]
I feel good.

[01:46:26]
We end off in a good place.

[01:46:28]
You have some nice little like Kodak conversations with Major Zero afterwards.

[01:46:34]
And you can call in and talk about your armor and stuff.

[01:46:38]
We will probably not go into too much detail about Kodak conversations.

[01:46:43]
I don't know.

[01:46:44]
Oh no.

[01:46:44]
Cause I have, I have a couple that I wanted to bring up that just kind of tickle me.

[01:46:49]
Yeah.

[01:46:49]
Sure.

[01:46:50]
Bring them up.

[01:46:50]
Yeah.

[01:46:51]
Or was, did we have a dedicated episode for that?

[01:46:53]
I can't remember.

[01:46:54]
Well, we do have a wrap up episode.

[01:46:57]
Okay.

[01:46:57]
That's going to cover in addition to that snake versus monkey.

[01:47:04]
Yes.

[01:47:05]
We should, we should absolutely discuss this.

[01:47:08]
Okay.

[01:47:08]
Well, then I will just mark these as things to hold on to for later.

[01:47:13]
Yeah.

[01:47:14]
The Kodak conversations are so good and we definitely aren't going to skip over those,

[01:47:18]
but it's, it's difficult to keep in place for the narrative sometimes.

[01:47:23]
Yeah.

[01:47:23]
Especially cause some of them are as Easter eggs.

[01:47:26]
That's the whole point of just enjoying.

[01:47:28]
Well, not only that, but some of them can be triggered at different times too.

[01:47:32]
So you never know where you're going to catch it.

[01:47:34]
Yeah.

[01:47:34]
Right.

[01:47:34]
True.

[01:47:36]
Definitely.

[01:47:37]
So when it comes to the next episode guys, you know what we're going to do next.

[01:47:41]
However, if you're following along with our little programming here, our next

[01:47:45]
episode is going to be a character focused episode.

[01:47:48]
Troy, do you want to let everybody know what the characters are going to focus on?

[01:47:52]
Oh, sure.

[01:47:53]
Yeah.

[01:47:54]
I'd love to.

[01:47:55]
Hang on.

[01:47:56]
Let me bring that up.

[01:47:58]
Ever the prepared one.

[01:48:01]
So next time we're going to focus on the Fox unit.

[01:48:05]
That's all our supporting characters that we get to talk to during these Kodak calls.

[01:48:10]
I can see why you brown it up at that moment.

[01:48:12]
Yes.

[01:48:13]
That'll include.

[01:48:14]
That'll include.

[01:48:15]
Oh, did somebody else want to get this?

[01:48:17]
Well, no, just Chris.

[01:48:18]
No, no, no, no.

[01:48:19]
I was, Tori, you're doing a great job.

[01:48:21]
Yes, great.

[01:48:22]
Okay.

[01:48:23]
Cool.

[01:48:23]
Neat.

[01:48:23]
Do me a major zero Jack or naked snake paramedic and sing it.

[01:48:32]
Are all characters we will be discussing next time.

[01:48:36]
I think we're going to delve into whatever information we can generally find during

[01:48:40]
their Kodak calls, as well as what kind of support they bring to you, the player or Jack,

[01:48:47]
the character.

[01:48:49]
What am I missing, Chris?

[01:48:51]
We'll touch on Kodak conversations.

[01:48:54]
I think we're going to just cover the characters up to this game and not carry on.

[01:49:00]
Cause, you know, major zero Jack, paramedic, sing it.

[01:49:06]
All these people go on to just fuck some shit up.

[01:49:08]
Right.

[01:49:09]
And we're not going to be, we're going to be hearing from them a lot.

[01:49:12]
We're not going to get into that, but we are going to talk about how their friends for

[01:49:16]
now.

[01:49:20]
So yeah, so I'm looking forward to it and do you have anything else you want to

[01:49:23]
bring up just before we let her rip y'all?

[01:49:25]
Are we feeling good?

[01:49:26]
I feel great.

[01:49:27]
Yeah.

[01:49:28]
I feel, I'm feeling good.

[01:49:31]
I'm feeling so fine.

[01:49:35]
All right, everybody.

[01:49:35]
Well, thanks again so much for listening to another episode of

[01:49:38]
Metal Gear Mondays Revengeance.

[01:49:39]
We'll see you on the next one.

[01:49:40]
And that I think it's time to let her rip Jack.
